The Security Guard will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for visitors, employees, and park property within the assigned state park. This includes monitoring park areas and facilities, enforcing park rules and regulations, and responding to emergency situations as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Patrol designated areas of the state park on foot to deter and detect security breaches, vandalism, and other illegal activities.
- Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of visitors, employees, and vehicles to prevent unauthorized access.
- Provide excellent customer service by answering questions, giving directions, and assisting visitors as needed.
- Enforce Park rules and regulations, and issue warnings or citations as necessary.
- Respond to emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fires, or criminal activity, and take appropriate actions to mitigate the situation and contact the relevant authorities.
- Maintain a digital log of all activities, incidents, and investigations.
- Conduct routine checks of buildings, equipment, and other park property to ensure they are secure and properly maintained.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Park Manager or Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Valid HI Guard Card
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals, including park visitors, employees, and law enforcement officials.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations.
- Knowledge of security protocols and procedures, as well as relevant state and federal laws.
- Physical fitness and ability to walk, stand, or sit for long periods, and to lift heavy objects if necessary.
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Able to oeprate and clearly communicate through a 2 way radio.
Working Conditions: The Security Guard will primarily work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. The position may require working in remote or isolated areas of the park, and may involve walking or driving over rough terrain. The guard may also encounter wildlife and potentially hazardous materials, and must be able to respond to emergencies at any time.
These are swing shift positions, usually starting at 1500 hours and ending at 2300 hours. Shifts are on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and sometimes weekdays.
