Qualifications:
1. Alaska Teaching Certification (initial, professional, masters or Type M limited), required
2. Experience/education in construction trades (building, electrical, plumbing, etc) programs or related field of employment, preferred
3. Classroom and/or teaching experience, preferred
4. Strong planning, writing and interpersonal communication skills, preferred
5. Strong ability to create relationships with parents and community partners
6. Ability to work successfully with a wide range of groups required
7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Job Goal:
To develop in each student an insight and understanding of industry and its place in our society; to discover and develop talents of students in the technical fields; to develop practical problem-solving skills related to the materials and processes of industry; and to develop in each student skill in the safe use of tools and machines.

Summary of Purpose:
Classroom teachers create a flexible and supportive education program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth. The teacher provides instruction at an appropriate grade level while establishing an effective rapport with students as well as parents and staff members. In accordance with each student’s ability, teachers motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good educational foundation. The teacher reports to and is evaluated by the site principal.

Techniques of Instruction
· Provides consistent and effective instructional opportunities that meet the individual and specific needs of all students so they may participate successfully.
· Assesses student progress during instructions and provides praise, constructive feedback and suggestions toward learning goals.
· Unit objectives are identified through practice tests, exemplars or demonstrations that are a regular part of instruction.
· Lesson plans are specific and align with standards and/or learning objectives.
Classroom Management
· Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
· Supervises the student’s environment, students, and volunteers.
· Maintains a safe and clean environment in which students may work.
· Follow industry standards for best practice with tools and equipment
Knowledge of Content
· Identifies and accommodates multiple learning styles, individual differences and preferences suited to all level of learners.
· Teaches the correct information for the standards accurately and clearly.
· Utilizes varied communication tools and styles based on the individual needs of the learners.
Relationships with Students and Parents
· Identifies varied strategies to motivate and connect with students and families to support and promote all student learning.
· Maintains encouraging and supportive environment while demonstrating clear expectations of high standards for student performance.
· Interacts and communicates in a culturally appropriate manner with parents and community to reach educational goals.
