In this role, you will work with the CCTV crew and will be responsible for site and equipment safety, equipment maintenance and damage prevention, job site preparation and staging. The Backman is the proactive agent who ensures that the tools and equipment required are on the truck and in top working condition; that the worksite is staged to promote safe, fast and accurate inspections. Previous experience with CCTV operation is required.
Essential Functions: To serve MME clients, (i.e., state and local municipalities), and to effectively perform CCTV inspection, the Backman must be able to:
Inspect the CCTV truck, all mounted equipment, cameras, tools, cables reels, rods, safety gears and measuring instruments daily to ensure that they are safe to use and are operating within performance limits.
Perform daily and scheduled maintenance routines to keep the CCTV truck and all mounted equipment, cameras, tools, cables reels, rods, safety gears and measuring instruments clean and in top working condition.
Report defects/breakdowns and coordinate replacements and repairs to minimize truck and equipment downtime.
Drive to assigned job sites, and stage job sites to facilitate safe, fast and accurate inspections. Specifically:
1. Locate the starting and reference manholes.
2. Establish safety perimeters with cones and traffic signs.
3. Redirect and control the flow of traffic.
4. Open manholes and assess safety conditions and work requirements.
5. Measure depth and pipe sizes.
6. Stage the equipment and tools needed for the job.
7. Carry the camera and other equipment to and from manholes.
8. Install and monitor drain plugs and/or bypass pumps to regulate flow in the sections being inspected.
9. Lower and raise cameras from manholes.
10. Remove debris from manholes.
Additional responsibilities:
Coordinate with the Vacman to complete the work as scheduled and resolve issues that impact safety, production and quality.
Able to stage inspection sites for traffic control and safety.
Able to lift 50 lbs. and work in an outdoor environment.
Able to operate, (local operation only), the following CCTV inspection equipment:
a. cameras (mainline and lateral), crawlers, cables and rods
b. cable wheels with drive and braking system
c. air compressors, drainage plugs and bypass pumps
Able to perform light user diagnostics, maintenance and minor repairs on all CCTV inspection equipment, (i.e., all mounted equipment, cameras, tools, cables reels, rods, safety gears and measuring instruments), to keep them working well and minimize downtime.
Able to use two-way radios to coordinate tasks remotely.
Able to monitor gauges and instruments.
Able to use measuring instruments (i.e., tape measure, wheel, scale master, etc.) to accurately record length and distance.
Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Compliance with and use of the following is required 100% of the time:
1. Company uniforms

4. Steel-toe shoes/boots
5. Gas monitors
6. OSHA safety rules and requirements
Comply with all quality policies, practices and procedures.
Report unsafe activities to supervisor and/or HR immediately.
Provide training to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
