Summary:
The Pl coordinator will perform data collection, data analysis, and performance improvement activities, support the American College of Surgeons Verification status, along with additional survey requirements. The Childrens Surgery Pl coordinator works closely with the Children's Surgery Program Director and surgeons to lead performance improvement activities to ensure optimal patient outcomes and early identification of patient safety issues. This position requires a high level of clinical judgement, creativity, organization, and priority setting. The Pl Coordinator works closely with primary and specialty care physicians and surgeons to support optimal outcomes and system-wide performance improvement through collaboration and coordination of projects as assigned. This position will manage projects that include data analysis and statistics, formulating strategies and administering policies, processes and resources, functioning with a high degree of autonomy.
Responsibilities:
- Investigates incident reports, patient care issues and other issues as requested (SafeLink, EPIC reports, etc.); constructs an accurate timeline, process flow diagrams, cause and effect and other required tools / diagrams related to the event; facilitates team discussions leading the team to reach conclusions and action plans; records and documents activities for each event / grievance in a timely manner; monitors unusual occurrences, reports follow-up procedures; compiles statistical data and writes narrative reports summarizing findings; participates in the development and follow-up of action plans.
- Coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of the department's overall Quality Improvement program; reports monthly and year-to-date comparisons; identifies trends, prioritizes and recommends improvements and ensures Joint Commission/OSHA/CMS/ACS etc. compliance. Interacts with medical leaders, management, caregivers, ancillary staff; participates in hospital committees as assigned; studies existing hospital policies and procedures and updates those as required; works to develop, implement and drive safety improvements that are measurable and sustainable; helps change culture to incorporate quality methods into daily work.
- Designs educational and informational material to disseminate lessons learned; develops run charts, control charts, and other graphical representations of QI projects metrics as appropriate; collaborates with team to develop project documents including project charter, key driver diagram, process flow, and other QI documents as necessary; reviews quality and safety performance data against external and internal benchmarks to identify opportunities for improvement projects; develops improvement projects using quality improvement methodology.
- Reviews medical records/reports to collect clinical data; validates data through comparison to original document to ensure accuracy and completeness of data elements; ensures that data is submitted in a timely manner (external and/or internal) as required/requested; acts as a primary liaison in collaboration with other clinical reviewers.
How You’ll Be Successful:
WORK EXPERIENCE
- At least 5 years' experience in healthcare or clinical environment Req
- At least 3 years' experience in a clinical area: Perioperative/Peri anesthesia/Anesthesiology, Quality, Process Improvement, or equivalent Pref
EDUCATION
- Four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Req
- Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience Pref
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- RN, RCP, AA-C Certification / Licensure or other equivalent credentials (CRNA, PA, NP, MSN) Pref
- CPHQ Certification Pref
