We’re currently seeking a Fulltime Certified Scrub Technician for our Ascentist Hospital located in Leawood, KS. Our Scrub Technicians are play a huge role in the care for our patients in our surgical unit. In this role, you will assist in operations, under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical staff by setting up the operating room, preparing and transporting patients for surgery, adjusting lights and equipment, passing instruments and other supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures and help count supplies. This role works on an on call basis, as needed, to meet patient care and business needs. Our hospital staffing is based on a teamwork concept, so you may cross train in other clinical areas and may be expected to perform other duties as staffing and patient needs change.
Other key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization
- Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning patients on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical drapes to prevent exposure
- Help prepare the operating room prior to an operation by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions
- Work with Sterile Processing as needed to arrange sterile setup for surgical procedures
- Ensures proper instrumentation for each procedure, including assembling both sterile and non-sterile equipment, and.
- Adjusts and checks equipment to ensure it is working properly.
- Understands and complies with all sterile techniques, maintaining a proper sterile field during surgical procedures
- Scrub arms and hands and assist the surgical team to scrub and put on gloves, masks and surgical clothing
- During surgery, efficiently pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants.
- Provide technical assistant to surgeons, surgical nurses, or anesthesiologists, including handing instruments and supplies to surgeons and surgical staff, hold retractors, cut sutures and perform other tasks as directed by the surgeon during an operation
- Participates in all counts (instruments, sponges, sharps, etc.) as needed
- Assists with maintenance of supplies and equipment
- Documents concisely, precisely and accurately on all records or document as indicated by policies and procedures
- Participates in quality assessment activities as directed for the continuous improvement of patient care and for the Hospital
- Ensure compliance with continuing and mandatory education programs
- Responds quickly, physically and mentally when priorities and/or a patient’s condition changes
- Regular, physical attendance on a predictable basis, including on call duties, is essential to the performance of this job
- Ensure all medications are labeled and handed to the surgeon according to established policies and procedures
- Prepare dressings or bandages and apply or assist with their application following surgery
- Ensure a clean, safe environment through continued adherence to principles of Universal Precautions, safety and explosive hazards and aseptic technique.
- Operate, assemble, adjust or monitor sterilizers, lights, suction machines and diagnostic equipment to ensure proper operation
- Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information and participating in team problem-solving methods.
- Maintain knowledge of and comply with established policies and procedures.
- Has read and understands HIPAA Privacy Policy and regulations and maintains confidentiality at all times.
- Complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.
- Maintains current CPR or BLS certification
- Complies with all regulatory requirements including OSHA, HIPAA, Ascentist Policies and Procedures and Ascentist Employee Handbook and professional standards of conduct
- Serves in on call capacity as needed to meet patient care and business needs
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned/necessary.
Qualifications
Education, Experience & Certifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must have six months experience as an Operating Room technician or documentation of equivalent education or training
- BLS certification
- Clean background check
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with operation monitoring, including watching gauges, dials or other indicators to ensure equipment of properly functioning
- Demonstrates proven verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to read and write legibly, communicate appropriately and effectively, understand and execute instructions as needed
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team environment
- Proven track record in reliability and dependability with the ability and willingness to work on call, nights and weekend shifts as needed to meet patient care and business needs
- Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Demonstrates critical thinking and ability to work with minimal supervision to analyze complex situations and apply policy
- Demonstrates friendly, personal, and timely patient care skills
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail in an ever changing environment.
- Proven track record in effectively planning, organizing, and prioritizing work
- Ability to maintain a positive, courteous demeanor with all patients and colleagues
- Demonstrates proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and email (Outlook or Gmail)
- Demonstrates understanding of and experience using an electronic medical record (EMR) systems
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of all internal and external communications
- Ability to pass a background check
- Understanding of and ability to comply with all regulatory requirements including OSHA, HIPAA, Ascentist Policies and Procedures and Ascentist Employee Handbook
Desirable Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology or LVN license in Kansas
- Certification in surgical technology
