Youth Co-Op, Inc., a nongovernmental, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the social and economic conditions of youth, adults, families, refugees and immigrants in South Florida, is seeking Senior Paralegal for its Immigration Program in Miami-Dade County.
Senior Paralegal will provide support to the Managing Attorney and Immigration Department staff in the preparation of the case files including completing required documents and providing interpretation/translation for clients when necessary. Perform outreach in the community.
Duties and Responsibilities Overview
- Provide administrative support to Immigration Department;
- Effectively communicate with clients;
- Attend meetings and keep notes;
- Write and Research legal related tasks.
- Conduct documentary research of immigration records;
- Prepare immigration legal documents such as forms, indexes, and related matters;
- Preserve an updated case record system;
- Answer phone calls, take notes/messages and redirect calls when appropriate;
- Maintain and update inventories of contact details using client database tools;
- Facilitate the meeting of deadlines by using case management systems, including using office technology and provide timely reminders;
Skills:
- Proven experience as a legal assistant;
- Knowledge of immigration system;
- Knowledge of MS Office and ability to work with legal technology;
- Working knowledge of immigration forms software systems is a plus;
- Proficiency in English and Spanish required;
- Outstanding time-management and typing skills;
- Ability to multitask and being comfortable dealing with a diverse pool of people;
Education Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Associates Degree;
- Fluency in Spanish;
- 5 years of paralegal or legal assistant or comparable experience;
