OVERVIEW OF POSITION: Reporting to the Educational Director, the Assistant Director will assist with overseeing the day-to-day operations of the program and ensure compliance with all regulations mandated by all state and local licensing agencies. S/he will be responsible for curriculum planning, teacher quality, and staff performance development. Additional responsibilities include:
- Engage and maintain effective communication with families in the program through daily conversations, family meetings, notices/postings, emails, newsletters, individual conferences (formal and informal), and semi-annual family/staff programs.
- Oversee the evaluation of students in relation to their developmental progress, abilities, and individual needs to include review and written materials provided to parents by staff for Family/Teacher Conferences.
- Assist the Director, as instructed, in conducting regular classroom observations, staff meetings, and monthly classroom team meetings, and plan/provide prep time to promote positive teamwork, collaboration, open communication, and problem-solving.
- Guide, direct, train, and support Center Teachers. Supervise teachers and support staff regularly to ensure their responsibilities and accountabilities are defined and understood.
- Assist with marketing of the program to ensure full center utilization year-round including hosting open house events, posts to approved social media platforms, creation of flyers, etc.
- Review classroom lesson plans. Provide support for curriculum planning to inspire ideas and ensure developmental appropriateness.
- Communicate Center goals and philosophy to program staff and families Maintain an active system of Family-Center relationships. Plan events and activities that encourage family participation, including classroom parent meetings, parent workshops, and staff/family social events, such as pot-luck dinners and Center celebrations.
- Maintain qualifications and required credentials.
- Maintain knowledge of new developments and research in the field of early childhood education through ongoing workshops and training.
- Attend all Director meetings and training.
- Demonstrate positive and respectful communication with classroom teachers, center staff and administration, families, children, and visitors.
- Perform other duties, activities, and projects as assigned and directed.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to push 100 pounds, such as children in strollers, buggies, or evacuation cribs.
- Must be able to stand, walk and sit for extended periods of time; move quickly and easily from sitting to standing position.
- Must be able to stand, walk and perform duties outdoors on a daily basis.
- Must be able to climb stairs/ramps/ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, squat and bend.
- Must be able to reach above the shoulders and must be capable of hand grasping, touching, pulling, in addition to, manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Must be able and willing to perform all classroom teaching responsibilities including diaper changes.
- Ability to work both inside and outside.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Completion of requirements for an assigned teaching position. Preferably a Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.), or Master’s Degree (M.A.), in early childhood education or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Teacher Certification (B-2 or B-6) by the State of New York.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience as a Teacher of young children.
