- The Assistant Chief Engineer is responsible for performing highly diversified duties including installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing industrial laundry equipment along with distributing and prioritizing work orders and repairs. Ensures that tasks such as start-up and shut-down procedures, electrical troubleshooting, boiler work, welding and cutting, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical, or other systems are being done according to policy and procedure standards. Assist with planning, budgeting and scheduling facility modifications - including estimates on equipment, labor materials and other related costs. Reports to the General Manager.
Essential Functions:
- Facilitate and supervise the installation, repair and maintenance of large industrial processing equipment such as Milnor Washers, Dryers, Steam Tunnels, Pressers, etc. Ensure that preventive and corrective maintenance of this equipment and for the facility in general is being done according to policy and procedure.
- Lead the plant maintenance staff and consult with production to ensure the smooth operation of the plant.
- Oversee the regular maintenance of lint traps, shaker screen barrels, oil levels, grease fittings, water levels, wastewater systems and other engineering processes.
- Repair and maintain hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, PC, air, power.
- Perform plumbing, 3-phase 230 volt electrical, carpentry, boiler repair, welding, and general facility repairs.
- Advise the General Manager of parts, supplies and equipment requirements, and order as needed. Coordinate the procurement of major parts and develop a centralized purchasing program.
- Supervise the handling of daily maintenance requests so that minimal down-time is experienced and operational processes are continually improved.
- Work with all plant personnel in a cooperative and professional manner.
- Strictly adhere to all safety rules, policies and procedures required by the company, state/federal law, and also what is recognized as common practice in the industry such as Lockout/Tagout procedures, Hot Work, Machine Guarding, etc.
- Remain current on equipment and repair procedures, and keep the maintenance engineering staff likewise.
- Keep accurate and timely records of maintenance performed.
- Represent company to outside regulators and ensure company is in full compliance (e.g., City of Phoenix Sewer and Pretreatment, Fire Departments, State of Arizona, etc.).
- Conduct routine inspection of Plant to ensure all safety devices and equipment guards are in place and in good working order; including all fire prevention and extinguishing systems.
- May work with and support other plant personnel based on business needs.
- Drive and pick up parts and transport equipment.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervision of the maintenance associates as needed for projects or vacations.
- Ensure proper training of new and assigned maintenance associates as it relates to their essential job functions. This is to include training, reviewing, and auditing of the preventive maintenance program as well as extensive safety requirements.
- Develop and counsel maintenance crew including employee documentations, annual reviews, coaching, and detailed personal development plans for each employee.
- Assist with creating processes and detailed direction for maintenance staff that will allow them to autonomously handle the day-to-day maintenance operation needed by the company to be successful.
Position Requirements:
- High School diploma required; AA Degree+ or Technical Training (Certificates or Licenses) is a plus! 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience required in a commercial laundry facility. Management experience is a plus.
- This position requires the knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, electronics (PLC), hydraulics, heating ventilation, air conditioning, carpentry, welding, machining and fabricating, Boiler Operator's license preferred. The position also requires proficiency in troubleshooting the before listed categories.
- Specialized knowledge in the maintenance of commercial or industrial cleaning equipment (Milnor Washers, Dryers, Steam Tunnels, Pressers, etc.)
- Must have well developed communication skills; Speak and Write English, Spanish is a plus, basic math skills, organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills, efficient multi-tasking abilities, ability to supervise multiple workers in an often fast-paced environment, organizational skills, and able to foster a positive team working environment.
- Have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Uniform: Associates will be issued and required to wear a standard uniform in accordance with the company’s dress code policy.
PPE: Protective equipment is available and will be required to be worn as the situation dictates.
Physical Demands/Requirements consist of standing, sitting, walking, stooping, driving a forklift, grasping, moving equipment, pushing, pulling, moving loaded carts weighing up to 500 lbs., reading/speaking English, and lifting up to 60 lbs. The production areas of a typical of an industrial laundry facility which includes variations in temperature, odors, humidity, lint and dust.
