Overview of Position:
The primary responsibility of the School Psychologist is to monitor and support the health and wellbeing of Kirby’s student population. The School Psychologist is responsible for the psychological assessment of academic, social, emotional, and behavioral domains utilizing problem-solving and standardized evaluations. The School Psychologist monitors the completion of external evaluations, occasionally performs in-school evaluations, creates and communicates accommodations with appropriate parties, and leads problem-solving meetings in which faculty are equipped with the tools they need to maximize students’ social, emotional, and educational success. In collaboration with staff, families, students, and community partners, the school psychologist promotes effective educational environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Planning and Development:
- Participation in the development of short and long term goals for the school psychological services program.
- Participating as part of a Student Service Team.
- Services to Students:
- Conducting comprehensive psychological evaluations that include but are not limited to the assessment of intellectual, developmental, academic, social/emotional and behavioral status.
- Assessment and data collection by use of informal or non-standardized evaluation techniques.
- Interpreting and utilizing assessment data for the purpose of writing psychological reports and developing written intervention plans.
- Counseling students individually and in groups.
- Providing crisis intervention.
- Utilizing the Student Service Team as a resource for students.
- Service to Parents:
- Assisting parents in locating available educational and mental health resources.
- Consulting with parents regarding psycho-educational information and interventions.
- Providing programming to the parent community when needs arise.
- Service to Teachers:
- Consulting with teachers and administrators regarding specific students.
- Assisting in the development of teacher implemented interventions.
- Assisting with school wide programs.
- Provide in-service and faculty meeting training.
- Service to Community:
- Participating in the development of educational and community partnerships.
- Professional Development:
- Attending in-service meetings and conferences to develop professional attitudes and skills.
- Maintaining professional skills through reading of current literature and professional memberships.
Other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Qualifications
- Educational Psychology License (preferred) or LCSW
- Knowledge of methods of student assessment for learning support services
- Knowledge of learning processes, appropriate instructional interventions to meet students’ needs, and the ability to implement and assess their effectiveness
- Experience with adolescent behavioral mental health
- Ability to communicate verbally in English and Spanish
Pay rate based upon qualifications and experience. This position is Monday through Friday, full time during the school year (and part of the summer), in person and includes health benefits.
