ImmDef seeks a dynamic, experienced accounting professional to join our Finance Team in the role of Accounting Manager. ImmDef’s Accounting Manager will be primarily responsible for ensuring and overseeing the completion of financial activities accurately and timely for Immigrant Defenders Law Center’s (ImmDef) Finance Department. The Accounting Manager will supervise two staff accountants. This position is an integral part of ImmDef’s Accounting Department and reports to the Director of Finance.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the activities of Accounting Department staff in managing the full-cycle monthly closing process;

Demonstrate and uphold quality while consistently meeting financial reporting calendar deadlines;

Manage and mentor a team of 2 accountants;
-
Review and approve all entries into the general ledger system;
-
Maintain and reconcile all subsidiary ledgers including receivables, payables, and fixed asset/depreciation;
-
Review invoices: billing data to ensure accuracy & proper allocation
-
A critical responsibility is the accurate and timely preparation of billings for all external entities, along with the maintenance of current reports required to track activity and remaining funding available from several sources;

Timely publication of all Financial Reporting Calendar items in preparation for monthly/quarterly financial statements and grant reports;

Ensure accurate recording and reporting of restricted fund transactions;
-
Ensure timely and accurate reconciliations of all bank transactions on a daily basis and monthly investment accounts;

Ensure timely and accurate 1099 reporting to vendors and the IRS;
-
Review and record payroll register on a bi-weekly basis;
-
Ensure timely and accurate reconciliations of all payroll entries including 401K, ASC, staff reimbursements, payroll accruals, vacation accruals, & adjusting journal entries as needed.

Ensure timely and accurate filing of all business tax and license applications as required;

Support with annual audits of all types by external auditors;

Assist in developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures, and internal controls;

Assisting with the preparation of annual budget as well as budgets for specific programs and grants;

Support and identify opportunities for process improvement in accounting and financial
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Business, Accounting, or equivalent credentials, plus a minimum of 5 years’ experience in finance positions demonstrating a progressively increasing level of financial management responsibility throughout all phases of the accounting cycle;

Strong Knowledge of GAAP principles & financial controls;

Non-profit experience and/or familiarity with audit and reporting requirements for federal, state and local grants;

Prior supervisory experience, including mentoring and training of financial staff;

Ability to utilize discretionary judgment and make decisions independently and responsibly;

Excellent computer skills with advanced knowledge of MS Excel using extensive links and/or pivot tables; Experience with QuickBooks Online,com, & Brex is helpful;

Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite;
-
The ability to oversee monthly closing cycle;
-
Detail-oriented and outstanding organizational skills;

Good oral and written communication skills.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position will be responsible for overseeing the accounting team of two staff accountants.
Classification and Work Schedule
-
This is a full-time, exempt position.
-
ImmDef’s standard work schedule is 35 hours per week, or 70 hours per pay period with flexible scheduling and hybrid options after an introductory period.

Given the demands of monthly and annual deadlines, this position may occasionally require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends.

This is largely a sedentary role, in a paperless environment.

This would require the ability to spend most of the time on a computer screen and managing multiple platforms as necessary.
Travel

Must possess a valid California driver’s license; proof of auto liability insurance; and have the use of a personal vehicle for work related purposes.

May be required to travel to ImmDef’s other offices in Southern California (Los Angeles, Riverside, Santa Ana, and San Diego).

Parking and Public Transportation Stipends:
