About the State Fair of Texas
Since its inception in 1886, the State Fair of Texas has celebrated all things Texan by promoting agriculture, education, and community involvement through quality entertainment in a family-friendly environment. The State Fair of Texas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with proceeds helping to preserve and improve our home, Fair Park; underwrite museums, community initiatives, and scholarship programs to support students throughout the Lone Star State pursuing higher education; and help improve State Fair operations.
SUMMARY
Inspect buildings and other structures during construction and remodeling projects to ensure all electrical operations are completed in compliance with all applicable safety codes and SFT standards and regulations; provide information to developers, builders, and contractors; procure all electrical permits for rides, shows, and SFT sponsored entertainment; maintain and repair all electrical equipment including SFT buildings and grounds.
Maintaining good reports with SFT’s upkeep and Maintenance. Complete proper inspections daily and report outcomes to upper management.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:

Inspect premises and buildings for the maintenance of existing electrical systems and upgrade those systems to maintain compliance with state and local electrical codes and ordinances.

Install new electrical operations for SFT exhibits including all booths, stages, exhibits, and tents.

Review building and plot plans to ensure compliance with state and local electrical code and ordinances and SFT requirements; coordinate and participate in the maintenance of plot and SFT maps.

Prepare cost estimates for all electrical applications, with special emphasis on cost-effectiveness of electrical distribution and usage.

Interface and coordinate activities with other departments to operationally provide the electrical support necessary for production of SFT activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Understanding and alignment with the core values of the State Fair of Texas.

Principles, practices, methods and techniques of electrical inspection and code enforcement.

Electrical codes and standards, basic understanding of building requirements, and other applicable systems.

Building construction techniques and processes.
-
Industry standards and specifications for public service construction projects.

Accepted safety standards and methods of construction and electrical activities.

Basic mathematics as applied to electrical/construction/inspection work.

Pertinent Federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations affecting health and safety.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
-
High School Diploma or higher level of education.

Previous work experience as an electrician.

Oral and written communication.
License or Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate Texas driver's license.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED and EXERCISED

Reports to Chief - Electrician

Work independently with minimal supervision.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental Conditions:
Working outdoors in various weather conditions and on uneven and/or slippery surfaces, as necessary, especially during Fair time and special events.
Physical Conditions:
