Animal Caretaker at Carolina Poodle Rescue
Who are we?
Carolina Poodle Rescue is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving the lives of poodles and poodle mixes as well as various other breeds. While the goal is to find each dog we take in homes, that is not always the case. Carolina Poodle Rescue runs a large sanctuary program that focuses on seniors and special needs! Carolina Poodle Rescue advocates for positive reinforcement training, the spay/neuter movement and the save them all movement. Carolina Poodle rescue is a large facility that cares for around 180 animals year-round, we operate 365 days a year. Our hours vary in the summer and winter. In the Summer we run shifts from 7am to 3:30pm and from 6pm to11pm. In the Winter, we run shifts from 8am to 4:30pm and 6pm to 10pm. We are open 7 days a week to care give for the many animals living on our property. We have dogs, cats, horses, and pigs on site.
What will you do?
Caregivers are expected to handle large quantity of dogs varying in size. You will be responsible for caring for the lives of 35-55 animals each shift. Caregivers clean, pick up, straighten up, and organize animals and their living areas. They feed, water and dispense medications and perform other routine day-to-day tasks that the animals need. They also help adopt animals by taking pictures and talking about the animals they are caring for. Approximately 5 hours per day each shift is cleaning, doing laundry, feeding and medicating dogs. The remaining 3 hours per shift is hands-on rotating dogs in and out, playing and interacting with the dogs and creating descriptions, photos and videos to help market our dogs available for adoption. The night shift is the same with a focus on feeding and general pick up.
Our successful caregivers gain their satisfaction from seeing clean, well-fed, well cared for, happy animals find new homes. You will not succeed here if you simply want a job and do not have a desire to improve the lives of companion animals.
Our night shift team is expected to work four hours. The hours are 6pm - 10pm. (During the Summer our hours are 6pm-11pm) The night shift is expected to rotate dogs out, feed them and medicate them as well as keep their living quarters clean. You will be working in a fast-paced environment. We will occasionally add additional hours to our night shift when we have a worker who proves to be committed and wants additional time with the animals.
