The Patient Account Representative position is multifunctional, and serves as the first point of contact between patients and billing. Responsible for completion and problem solving of a wide variety of duties and projects supporting all areas of the billing department and site locations.
This position will work at our Atwater administration office.
Compensation: $21.46 - $22.53 an hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrates effective communication and problem-solving skills in person, by phone, or by letter
- Ability to multi task, responding to and handling a wide range of duties simultaneously.
- Researches and answer questions regarding accounts. Reviewing and making necessary adjustment to patient accounts as appropriate based on insurance remittance
- Update insurances and reprocess claims to correct insurance to ensure proper payment.
- Re-submits third party billing claims when appropriate to primary, secondary, or tertiary.
- Accept and post patient payments over the phone and into patient accounts.
- Provide patient education to utilize self-service payment methods.
- Process internal requests from site via the BIF process or email to address questions and provide information and/or training.
- Sorts and distributes mail posts batches of correspondence from the lock box
- Prepares and sends pre-collect letters.
- Follows up on return mail by calling patients and/or entering alerts for site staff to attempt collection of needed patient demographics.
- End of day payment reconciliations.
- Runs insurance credit card payments daily.
- Review and processes requests for billing records as requested by law firms and patients.
- Assists with other section work queues and/or projects as assigned.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Physical Demands
- The employee must occasionally lift 25 pounds and/or move up to 50 pounds (on wheels) on rare occasions.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to hear staff on the phone and those who are served in-person, and speak clearly in order to communicate information to clients and staff.
- Vision that is adequate to read memos, a computer screen, billing and clinical and administrative documents.
- Must have manual dexterity.
- Must be able to reach above the shoulder level to work, must be able to bend, squat and sit, stand, stoop, crouching, reaching, kneeling, twisting/turning, fingering and felling.
Work Environment
The physical environment requires the employee to work indoors, primarily in an office setting. The noise level inside is quiet to average. Use of general office equipment is required on a daily basis.
Education/Experience Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to accurately enter data into medical information systems.
- Understanding of payor eligibility.
- Ability to read and understand explanation of benefits
- Ability to problem solve patient account payment and adjustment questions.
- English/Spanish required.
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year office/medical billing experience, preferred.
- EPIC experience preferred.
