AmeriCorps Teaching Fellows serve a vital role at Academy Prep Center of Tampa. Our Teaching Fellows assist in the classroom, develop and teach their own enrichment classes, tutor students in Math and English, supervise student meals, and transport and chaperone Saturday field trips. As an AmeriCorps Teaching Fellow, members have the unique opportunity to grow and learn in a fun and fast-paced environment. Academy Prep serves middle school students qualifying for need-based scholarships. Students are in school 10.5 hours a day, and have the opportunity to an assortment of enrichment classes in addition to their core academic classes.
AmeriCorps Teaching Fellows are asked to commit to a one-to-two year fellowship intended to develop their knowledge and skills as an educator. In exchange for their invaluable service to the Academy Prep community, Teaching Fellows receive extensive professional development in a forwarding-thinking, student-centered environment in addition to:
- Rent-free, fully-furnished apartment (utilities included)
- Stipend of $819.23 (gross before taxes) paid bi-weekly for term of service
- One-time move-in and clothing allowance, $400
- Employer-paid health insurance coverage
- 401(k) with a 5% match
- Potential to enroll in the AmeriCorps program for eligible applicants, which can additionally provide an Education Award of $6,895 at the conclusion of each year and can be used towards student loan debt (not private) or towards graduate school.
Experience, Skills, and Personal Attributes
- Bachelor’s degree (all majors welcome, teaching certificate not required).)
- Experience working with youth, middle school grades preferred.
- An honest person who will live the school’s values and who effectively blends candor, care, and empathy in dealing with others.
- Generosity of spirit, exceptional work ethic, flexibility, and willingness to consistently learn.
- Must have a driver's license.
