JOB SUMMARY
Plans, prepares and packs product for shipment. Constructs non-standard frames/racks. Selects materials for packing or protection of product and method of bracing or blocking to prevent shifting or damage while in transit. Uses computer to print labels. Applies labels and inserts packing lists following department procedures.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reviews completed work orders to review product and quantity to be shipped. Selects packing materials and wraps product for shipment.
- Constructs frames or braces to prevent product shifting while in transit. Operates hand and power tools to cut and build shipping supports.
- Loads trucks with product to be shipped. Ensures product shipped matches work orders. Uses care to determine proper placement to prevent damage. Unloads supplies from delivery trucks as needed and notifies department members to retrieve deliveries.
- Applies shipping labels and stickers to shipments following department procedures. Includes packing lists as necessary.
- Maintains supplies of shipping materials. Complete requisition for replacement supplies.
- Assists production department with assembly of products.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Requires the ability to read and understand work instructions and complete basic forms. Includes basic math skills. Knowledge of shop tools helpful. This is normally acquired through high school courses in reading, writing, math and shop.
- Previous shipping/construction experience preferred
- Basic keyboarding skills preferred.
- Overview knowledge of Excel and Email helpful.
- Must be able to use basic tools, read a tape measure, follow instructions, detail oriented
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to use power and hand tools to cut and assemble shipping frames.
- Ability to use hand truck for loading/unloading.
- Must be forklift certified
- May work in various types of weather and therefore would be subject to cold and hot temperatures.
