The lead teacher will share planning responsibilities with the assistant teacher(s). Responsibilities will include working with children in a whole group, small groups and individually in a developmentally appropriate way; building relationships with both children and families; planning in collaboration with assistant teacher(s) for appropriate activities that meet children’s needs in all developmental domains; and observing and assessing in an ongoing manner and in a way that informs instruction. Additional responsibilities include:
- Work in a collaborative team model
- Follow expectations/guidelines while integrating fresh ideas that are reflective of Giocare’s philosophy
- Perform daily physical tasks to keep the classroom tidy, organized and accessible for the children and teachers
- Attend workshops and professional development as necessary throughout the year
- Create a classroom environment that is welcoming, engaging and evolves with the class.
- Observe children and document what you are observing. Use Teaching Strategies Gold for authentic assessment.
- Communicate with parents using Brightwheel, weekly newsletters, emails and in-person conversations
Although you are part of a teaching team, as the lead teacher in the classroom, you will be the responsible party for delivering weekly plans, daily Brightwheel updates, weekly newsletter including inputting photos and three parent-teacher conference reports a year. You are also tasked with training and managing any Assistant teachers in your classroom and mentoring their growth.
Idea candidate has:
- 3 years lead teaching experience
- worked in a DOH permitted program before
- appropriate trainings and fingerprints
- Masters degree in early childhood education
- Must have NYS teaching certificate in early childhood education
Hours would ideally vary among morning and afternoon shifts so some flexibility of schedule is required. Great benefits offered. Option to work 10 or 12 months (reflected in salary range).
