Job Description – Teaching Assistant
The teacher assistant will be responsible for assisting a classroom teacher in the general supervision and management of a group of children. Specific duties of a teacher assistant include:
Responsibilities:
- Understand the purpose, mission, and philosophy of the church and preschool
- Implements plans specified by the teacher concerning daily individual and group activities for children, lesson plans, room arrangements and learning centers
- Implements and reinforces the same behavior management strategies utilized by the teacher
- Helps children control behavior using a positive, consistent approach.
- Assists teacher by working with children singly and in groups
- Prepares materials and learning areas, participates in or guides activities for the social, nutritional, physical, emotional and spiritual development of the children
- Helps direct activities of volunteers and meets with parents under direction of the teacher
- Maintains good communication with parents
- Assists children to be self-reliant and to relate to others; assists by guiding students or modeling appropriately in the areas of communication and personal hygiene
- Assists teacher in record keeping and observations related to children’s development, health and behavior
- Prepares snacks and promotes integral learning during snack times
- Helps with general housekeeping tasks
- Attends to needs of individual children with sensitivity
- Attends required staff meetings
- Helps build a supportive, caring team
- Performs other duties as directed by teacher

- Demonstrates self-motivation and desires to continue learning to increase knowledge and skills by attending staff meetings, workshops and conferences and read publications related to child development and interpersonal relationships
- Follows Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and Preschool’s guidelines as set forth in the parent handbook, parent newsletters, program policies, bulletin boards and any other Early Childhood Program materials.

Physical Demands:
- Sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time
- Kneeling, crouching, or bending at the waist to assist student

- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate assigned equipment
- Lifting and carrying children and/or moderately heavy objects (up to 60 lbs.)
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 20 per week
