PACS Administrator II - Job Summary
Location: Lincoln, Nebraska (not a remote position)
The PACS Administrator II is responsible for the configuration, support, training and routine maintenance of the organization’s radiology Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) and radiology medical devices. Provides direction for PACS system design and technical mentorship for the other PACS Administrators.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assumes responsibility for all aspects of day-to-day PACS operations including image workflow, archiving, auto routing, prefetching, hanging protocols, and other related activities. Serves as subject matter expert and provides architectural review and support at a project level.
- Possesses strong analytical abilities and quickly identifies technical issues within the imaging system and provides rapid resolution.
- Communicates and interacts with end users, Physicians, vendors and IT/Telerad team to help resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Serves as a senior-level resource and mentor to other PACS Administrators to promote knowledge sharing and professional growth.
- Provides direction in PACS system design and application infrastructure.
- Utilizes project management methodologies to plan, organize, document and communicate status of complex radiology PACS projects or device implementations.
- Develops test plans for PACS upgrades, implementations, and application integrations. Oversees the application testing and provides direction to the other PACS Administrators.
- Authors training documentation and provides instruction to users and internal team members on medical imaging applications and devices.
- Develops application architecture documentation and interface diagrams.
- Reviews interface builds scope of work for customers.
- Possesses working knowledge of HL7 CorePoint interface engines.
- Provides support for ancillary radiology applications (e.g., dose monitoring, mammography reporting, etc.).
- Ensures efficient IT workflow in clinic (software and hardware for radiology related applications) by partnering with and supporting physicians and internal team members.
- Ensures confidentiality of patient information by possessing solid knowledge of federal and state guidelines and regulations as they pertain to the sharing and retention of electronic medical images and related radiology ePHI. Reviews and provides input to information security plans regarding medical imaging security requirements.
- Manages and coordinates system security to ensure that unauthorized personnel cannot access confidential patient information. Assigns and updates user and system passwords and access levels.
- Coordinates and manages vendor representatives and support to ensure the imaging system meets the organization’s needs.
- Collaborates with external customers to ensure radiology services are provided in an optimized, seamless fashion while maintaining strong relationships through exceptional customer service.
- Performs quality audits and tracks metrics related to medical imaging system use.
- Provides rotating afterhours on-call support for the PACS and RIS systems.
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned by management.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Associate degree in computer science, management information systems, radiologic sciences or health related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 2+ years of progressively responsible experience supporting radiology PACS systems (GE preferred).
- Experience supporting an interface engine (CorePoint preferred).
- Experience working with MedQ preferred.
- Experience providing training to radiology, IT, and PACS teams.
Certifications/Licensure
- CPAS certification preferred

- Ability to provide technical mentorship to PACS Administrators I
- Solid understanding of clinical workflow and how it relates to medical imaging and PACS
