The Department of Biological Sciences within the Mellon College of Science is seeking a Research Associate II to work in the laboratory of
Dr. Zheng Kuang
. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. In this role, you will be responsible for the execution of laboratory experiments in the field of gut microbiome. Specifically, you will investigate the epigenetic regulation of host-microbial interactions in metabolism and immunity. You will lead aspects of laboratory daily operations including ordering consumables, assisting in the maintenance of a mouse colony, managing undergraduate student research and/or aiding in graduate student projects that include but are not limited to molecular and biochemical experiments, gnotobiotics, genomics, mouse metabolism and infection experiments.
Core responsibilities include:

Performing research experiments following experimental protocol and procedures
-
Researching and documenting information by compiling and maintaining accurate and detailed records
-
Identifying problems and obstacles to progress; developing strategies to solve problems
-
Programming software in support of job functions. Attending project meetings
-
Summarizing statistical information for analysis, examination or presentation; writing technical reports. Building and validating quantitative models
-
Using a variety of software packages to input, manipulate, collect and record results or observations
-
Performing other related duties as assigned

You should demonstrate:

Strong oral and written communications skills.

Strong problem solving and reasoning skills.

Experience and interest in lab management and mouse procedures preferred.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a biological field required; higher degrees preferred.

3-5 years of data collection, data analysis, research lab and research methodology experience required.
