Milton Public Schools is searching for a part-time Registered Nurse to oversee the health and safety of students. They will coordinate and administer care for students and liaise with parents and staff as needed. This is a unionized position in the Milton Educators Association, Unit A.
- Provide first aid and illness assessment for students during school hours and in our after-school program.
- Triage medical emergencies, provide appropriate care, and make medical referrals as necessary.
- Administer medications following Milton Public Schools and Massachusetts Department of Public Health medication administration policies.
- Provide telephone triage/consultation to other Milton Public Schools Programs with possible travel to other sites, as needed.
- Collaborate with parents regarding student health issues and updates on student health needs.
- Collaborate with the primary building school nurse regarding student health issues and updates on student health needs.
- Maintain constant communication with the Director of Nursing, School Administrators, Program Supervisors, and Director of Community Schools to discuss student health concerns and emergency healthcare plans.
- Provide EpiPen Training for After School Program staff.
- Maintain required documentation regarding student health office visits and medication administration.

- Available to work Monday through Friday, 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. on regular school days
Available to work on Early Dismissal Days 12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. once a month.
Job Requirements
- Possess a valid, current Massachusetts license for practice as a Registered Nurse and current BLS certification
- DESE License or ability to obtain a license within 30 days of hire
- 2+ years of professional experience in school nursing, acute care, and/or pediatric experience preferred
- All prospective staff will be required to have a CORI check and be fingerprinted.

- Provide direct nursing care to students and staff members in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Assess and evaluate the health needs of students and provide appropriate interventions and treatments
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers
- Monitor and manage chronic health conditions of students, such as asthma, diabetes, and allergies
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide immediate care until additional help arrives
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop individualized healthcare plans for students with special needs
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all students
- Educate students, staff, and parents on health-related topics, including disease prevention, nutrition, and hygiene practices
Requirements:
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Previous experience working in a healthcare setting, preferably in a school or pediatric environment
- Knowledge of common childhood illnesses, injuries, and medical conditions
- Ability to assess and respond to medical emergencies quickly and effectively
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with students, staff, parents, and healthcare providers
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of student health information
- CPR certification (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
- Knowledge of state laws and regulations regarding school health services
Note: Experience in an emergency room (ER) setting would be beneficial in this role as it provides valuable experience in handling urgent medical situations.
