We’re looking for experienced licensed teacher candidates to Join our Y Scholars Program at Parsons Elementary and Katz Elementary. We are currently seeking a dedicated, passionate and cause driven leader for the following role:
Y Scholars Teacher
Under the direction of the Youth and Family Coordinator and Power Scholars Site Coordinator, the Teacher will directly supervise and instruct groups of children in the Y Scholars Program. The Teacher will implement the Power Scholars Curricula and YMCA activities for the program. The hours for this position are 3:30pm - 5:30pm Monday - Thursday.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Implementing (literacy / math / literacy and math) curricula and activities to meet academic standards

Utilizing formal assessment data to refine and adapt curriculum lessons and inform instructional practices

Developing daily engaging lesson plans aligned to specific learning objectives

Delivering relevant, engaging, and rigorous lessons utilizing a variety of instructional methods
-
Maintaining an organized and efficient classroom
-
Adhering to all program and district professional expectations and compliance issues
-
Creating a positive, achievement-oriented, organized, and engaging learning environment
-
Motivating and holding scholars to high academic and behavioral expectations
-
Providing consistent rewards and/or consequences for scholar behavior grounded in positive discipline
-
Empowering scholars to make positive choices and serving as a role model
-
Being accountable for meeting scholars’ individual academic and instructional needs
-
Implementing collaborative and co-teaching instructional strategies with program assistant teachers
-
Communicating effectively with scholars, families, program staff, and host-school staff

Compliance with all program and/or district professional-development requirements
ABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS:
1. Adheres to policies related to boundaries with children.
2. Attends required abuse risk management training.
3. Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
4. Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
5. Adheres to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Previous and relevant experience in utilizing and implementing data-driven instructional practices

Experience in the use of technology (computer/Internet) for assessment and instruction

Knowledge of differentiated instructional practices and strategies

Drive to improve the minds and lives of scholars within the community

Proven track record of high achievement in a classroom setting

Mastery of and enthusiasm for (literacy / math / literacy and math) academic standards and instructional rigor

Excellent organizational and communication skills

Committed to the goals of the program and approach

Evidence of efficacy and willingness to be a team player

Belief and commitment to the mission and values of the program
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree is required; master’s degree is preferred. Minimum of two years’ teaching experience in an urban public school with (elementary / middle school / K8) children. Valid state (elementary / middle-school literacy / middle-school math) teaching certification.

Valid state teaching certification (elementary)

American Red Cross CPR, AED and First Aid.

Working with Children within 30 days of hire date

Staff are to attend all trainings and in-services required by Supervisor

Working knowledge of YMCA policy and organization.
