ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
Legacy Charter School is a high-performing public charter school holistically educating 500 scholars in pre-k through 8th grade in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood. Our mission is to create an outstanding center for teaching and learning for children and their families that will recognize and nurture the full potential of every child, provide a foundation for a college education, and educate our scholars to be creative and critical thinkers and responsible citizens in school, at home, and in the broader community.
POSITION SUMMARY
Our art teacher provides scholars with instruction that builds their visual arts skills. They are able to plan lessons that expose scholars to a variety of mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture, lettering, and art history. The art teacher provides instruction by which scholars develop aesthetic concepts and appreciation as well as the ability to make qualitative judgments about art. They are a central part of the culture work at Legacy and help to demonstrate the importance of art throughout the building.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking an art teacher who is a positive adult role model for our scholars. The ideal candidate:
- has knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities in the area of art
- is a self-starter with the ability to design, plan, and implement a fine arts program for scholars in kindergarten through eighth grade.
- encourages scholars to express their own personalities and thoughts through the creative process
- provide instruction that encourages scholars to understand and appreciate art
- uses art concepts to expand scholar’s social-emotional learning skills
- Works collaboratively with grade-level teachers
- Manages classes of scholars (up to 26) and maintains acceptable standards of classroom behavior conducive to an orderly learning environment
- Organizes and maintains an inventory of supplies and materials.

- implement art projects that embrace classroom instruction
REQUIREMENTS
- Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Preferred: have a Professional Educator’s License.

Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience. A competitive benefits package will also be offered.
