The Cabinetmaker III/ Lead is responsible for producing cabinets, fixtures. Architectural millwork and wood furniture for the university. Acts as a lead to cabinetmaker technicians and other personnel, providing training, technical expertise and assistance in performing wood projects, using various cabinetmaking materials and techniques. May coordinate the work activities of less experience cabinetmaker personnel. Inspects job sites and plans repairs. Working independently and exercising good judgement and discretion is essential to this job.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
1. With minimal supervision, fabricates the most complex cabinets, fixtures and furniture with materials such as wood, veneer, and laminates.
2. Is able to work from shop drawings to ensure finished product follows design and specifications with a high level of quality and detail.
3. Is familiar with and is able to utilize a variety of woodworking tools and techniques.
4. Fabricates complex cabinets, fixtures and furniture using stationary and hand held-tools.
5. Knowledgeable in the use, care, and maintenance of a variety of woodworking equipment.
6. Follows all safety and housekeeping policies to ensure a safe working environment.
7. Assists supervisor by overseeing projects and providing guidance and training to co-workers as needed.
8. Must provide own hand tools to perform and complete trade related tasks.
9. Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks.
10. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
11. Essential Personnel; you are required to work during snow events and major on campus events. Performs snow removal activities as assigned, such as shoveling, salting, etc.
12. Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the Cabinet Shop Supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position is responsible for 5+ staff.
Qualifications, Credentials and Competencies
A high school diploma or GED and minimum of 7+ years' experience in cabinetmaking doing a variety of woodworking is required. C ertifications obtained while employed by Liberty University at the expense of the employer will be reimbursed back to the University upon voluntary termination (resignation) for the first 12 months after acquiring it. Regularly required to lift 50+ pounds. The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a typical woodshop setting that includes dust, noise from shop equipment, hazards from power equipment and paint fumes. May require eye protection, ear protection and respiratory protection. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required. Must be able to work on weekends, holidays, and flexible daily/evening hours.
