SALARY: The salary range for this position is $42,827.46 to $64,864.16 for Schedule A, and $42,827.46 to $58,067.99 for Schedule B. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. Judiciary employees hired prior to August 20, 2014, are considered Schedule A. Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after August 20, 2014, are considered Schedule B.

The Middlesex Vicinage is seeking self-starters interested in performing a variety of clerical, administrative, and other support functions in connection with the operations of the Superior Court. Applicants to this posting may be considered for openings in the
Civil, Criminal, Family and Probation Divisions.
Under the direction of the Court Executive 1b (Assistant Division Manager) and other supervisory personnel, the selected applicants will serve as support staff for one of the above Divisions.
Duties may include but are not limited to:

Answering questions posed by judges, the public, clients, customers, complainants, coworkers, and supervisors.

Providing information and explaining Judiciary policies and procedures to court users.

Providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers in person, by telephone, and via written communication.

Compiling and entering data into computer systems; entering appropriate case notes into computer systems; correcting errors in data, accounts, or documents as needed.

Composing non-routine correspondence.
-
Scheduling and coordinating conferences, hearings, trials, and other court events.
-
Verifying records, documents and pleadings for accuracy, completeness and conformity with court rules and other regulations and requirements.

Performing court clerking duties including, but not limited to operating digital recording systems accurately; maintaining accurate and detailed records and logs of in-court activities; marking exhibits; administering oaths to witnesses; completing other court-related paperwork.

Issuing writs, warrants and other legal documents into computer systems. Processing warrant paperwork as per established division protocols.

Processing postal verifications (updated in NJKiDS).
-
Assisting customers at the payment window by conforming legal documents, calculating fees and costs and entering financial data.

Working on the processing and disbursement of court fees, fines, bail, restitution and child support payments; preparing deposits and reconciling accounts.

Troubleshooting office equipment malfunctions as needed.

Performing other duties as assigned.
Note: The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule and this position may for qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, you will be required to have high speed home internet access. This program does not supersede the "New Jersey First Act", which requires newly hired Judiciary employees to establish and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey.
Experience Requirement: One year of experience in an office environment performing a variety of clerical and support services to include keyboarding and one or more of the following: document or information processing, handling payments for fees, recording monies received, reconciling balances or accounts and/or scheduling meetings or appointments.

WHAT IS PROVISIONAL?
This position is “Provisional”. At a future date, the selected candidate will need to file for a Civil Service Exam and be reachable on the resulting eligible list in order to gain permanency. While there is currently no information on when this test will be announced, please note that Civil Service test announcements can be found on the NJ Civil Service Commission website at www.state.nj.us/csc.
Testing: Applicants selected to interview must pass an appointing authority administered examination to demonstrate keyboarding skills at the Judiciary standard of at least 25 words per minute, or must have otherwise demonstrated this competency as detailed below.
The appointing authority administered examination is waived for the following applicants who have been deemed to possess keyboarding skills at the Judiciary standard of 25 words per minute:

All applicants who possess a current typing proficiency certification issued by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission or the New Jersey Judiciary.

Judiciary staff that have permanent status in a career service title requiring a keyboarding, typing or stenography test.
-
Judiciary staff in unclassified titles requiring a keyboarding, typing or stenography test.
BICAT Testing: Candidates selected to serve in a bilingual variant title must pass the New Jersey Civil Service Commission Bilingual Communicative Ability Test (BICAT) performance examination or provide proof of having established bilingual proficiency with the New Jersey Civil Service Commission.
Physical Ability: For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching. The selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
Driver's License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
Special Note: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information.
Residency Law: In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.
