Position / Title: Paraeducator – Early Learners (for ALL Early Learner Classrooms)

Function / Position Summary
To support the early learner program in providing a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the needs of the students. Uphold School District U-46 ICARE Standards. Perform duties and activities under direct supervision of a certified staff member. Adhere to published policies and procedures distributed by the district and school. Maintain confidentiality of student, staff and department information within the school and community.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Implement individual or small group instruction under the direction and/or supervision of a certified teacher.
- Collaborate with the teacher, prepare and maintain materials.
- Familiarize self with goals and objectives for individual students in the classroom.
- Facilitate implementation of behavioral programs and procedures.
- Document student behavior and learning as directed by the teacher.
- Help in loading and unloading student buses during assigned work hours.
- Escort students as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Lift, transfer, position, toilet, etc.
- Attend staff meetings and staff development activities as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned
Education
- Paraprofessional Educator License, Professional Educator or Provisional Educator License required.
- Minimum education requirement for a Paraprofessional Educator License is: associates degree or higher, completion of at least 60 semester hours of college course work or a high school diploma or GED with a passing score on the ETS Para Pro exam or two specific Work Keys exams.
- Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred. Certain assignments require Bilingual – Spanish/English.
Experience / Knowledge
- Effective communication skills.
- Experience working with students in an educational setting preferred.
Physical Demands
- Lift, transfer, position, toileting, etc.
- Excellent physical agility and quick response time.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Terms of Employment
- This is a 10-month position (189 days)
- Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education and set forth in the collective bargaining agreement as applicable
Salary information:
- 6.5 hours per day
- Starting rate $17.98 per hour (Will honor years of experience)
