About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Facilities Technician to fit seamlessly into our mission-driven, busy team. The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of technical maintenance experience in an agricultural setting or related field and is ready to hit the ground running with enthusiasm, knowledge, and a no-task-too-small attitude.
Reporting to the Facilities Manager and working closely with the farm team, this position is responsible for the servicing of our production facility, helping with installations, repairs, and regular maintenance of the company’s farming equipment with oversight from the Farm Manager. This role will also assist in farm production tasks including keeping our grow equipment, farm systems, & farm work spaces clean and efficient, and may be asked to jump in wherever needed to keep our operations running smoothly.
Qualified candidates are proficient in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems and can plan and execute multiple projects at once. This person will also be responsible for inventory as well as planning and scheduling routine work, including both short- and long-term projects. The right person will also bring a “safety-first” mentality.
You will:
- Work both as a team and independently to perform preventative and reactive maintenance according to prioritized incoming work orders issued through our CMMS and proprietary software systems.
- Perform routine cleaning and sanitation maintenance of farm systems equipment and components.
- Jump into miscellaneous duties as needed to support team success, including but not limited to local product deliveries, farm production tasks, inventory runs, and picking up equipment from local suppliers/hardware stores.
- Safely operate cleaning and sanitation equipment and develop a strong understanding of farm components and production automation equipment.
- Assist the Facility Manager in troubleshooting and resolving issues in the growing system.
- Communicate system needs and issues to the Facility Manager and Farm Manager.
- Participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule for emergency repairs & maintenance as needed, which may include weekends, holidays and severe weather events.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace for all staff in accordance with all relevant campus policies & schedules.
- Support the management team in performing Environmental Monitoring Program swabbing, collection and send-off.
- Perform chemical testing to determine correct detergent and sanitizer concentrations for use.
- Document and verify initiatives that support SQR’s food safety and quality assurance programs.
- Provide input to the Facilities Manager to continually improve upon sanitary design, process flows, sanitation best practices and equipment needs.
You have experience with:
- Hazard analysis and critical control points, Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and Centralized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS)
- Repairs & maintenance in HVAC, low-voltage electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems
- Familiarity with food safety best practices, chemical safety handling and worker safety
- Operating various power tools, equipment, machinery and vehicles (i.e., fork lift, box truck)
- Identifying technical issues and implementing both long and short term solutions
- Understanding of indoor grow systems, or similar computer automation processes is a big plus
- Preventative maintenance, equipment assembly, and standard cleaning procedures.
- Taking direction and meeting required deadlines
- Working in dynamic environments with sensitive products
- Various tools, equipment, and related worker safety procedures
- Warehouse and inventory organization utilizing FIFO

- Comfortable standing for long hours & able to lift 75lbs regularly
- A safe driver with a clean driving record

- An outside-of-the-box problem solver with the ability to switch gears quickly and address competing priorities efficiently
- Not claustrophobic; you're comfortable working inside of shipping containers and unphased by working safely at heights of 10-25ft
- Able to work both independently and collaboratively, with confidence and a sense of urgency.
- Not afraid to ask for help and willing to stretch outside of your direct responsibilities to support your team as needed.
- Strong in taking projects through to completion, accounting for the downstream implications in your planning
