We are looking for energetic individuals to serve as part time youth development staff in our after school programs. These positions are responsible for overseeing a group of elementary, middle school or high school students by assisting with homework, supervising enrichment activities, leading group games, and more!
Candidates should be available 2:30-6:00pm M-F, with 12:30 arrival time one Wednesday a month as DCPS schedules Early Release Wednesdays (typically the last Wednesday of every month) although some flexibility may be available to support college class schedules as able.
Candidates for this position should have strong group management skills, enjoy working with youth, and be team players. This position operates on days DCPS is in session and has opportunities for full time Summer Camp Counselor positions during our Summer Programs for eligible staff. Opportunities for additional hours provided for staff interested/eligible to drive the company van for student pick up/drop off prior to and after program as needed.
Qualifications
- Past or current experience working with youth either paid or volunteer preferred but open to candidates without relevant experience who have a heart & passion for instilling hope in youth.
- Commitment to youth development and the mission of MWYF.
- Flexible and calm under pressure; Excels at operating in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lead activities and engage students throughout the session.
- Ability to maintain structure and boundaries with youth of all ages.
- Comfortable working with K-12 youth and adults alike, including youth from low-income environments.
- Willingness to complete required training during the first 90 days of employment.
- Meet DCF qualifications for Level 2 Background screening & pass a Drug Test.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors and adapt to inclement weather; able to bend and lift to 40 lbs.; while performing duties, the employee is required regularly to stand and walk.
Starting rate of $17/hr. with opportunities for increase based on relevant experience/training.
