We are a fully integrated sand supply and services company, offering complete sand, logistics, storage, and management solutions to our customers with our in-basin trans-loading terminals and our smartsystem storage capabilities. We own and operate premium frac sand mines and related processing facilities in Wisconsin and Illinois, which have access to three Class I rail lines, allowing us to deliver products substantially anywhere in the United States and Canada.
We are seeking candidates to join our Logistics team as a Shift Supervisor.
The Logistics Shift Supervisor supervises equipment and personnel in addition to operating the locomotive engines in the private rail yard. The Logistics Shift Supervisor is required to perform additional tasks related to rail shipments including railcar inspection, the unloading of railcars and coordination with contractors performing on-site railcar movement. This position will perform administrative duties required to meet job goals including planning, scheduling, and reporting.
The position will work under the supervision of the Logistics Superintendent, but will require taking direction from other Smart Sand managers. This position is based primarily at our Oakdale, WI facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- In the absence of the Logistics Superintendent, the Logistics Shift Supervisor will provide daily direction regarding rail car movements.
- Proactively plans workflow of rail car movements while maintaining high standards of safety.
- Verifies rail cars ID to ensure car placement accuracy based upon information received monitors correct product movement from storage and manages material handling equipment.
- Assists in unloading/loading rail cars.
- Completes required documentation ensuring paperwork is accurate and verified.
- Manages product transitions.
- Works with load out crew on hopper car spots and movement and with other daily operations.
- Secures loaded hopper car and completes required paperwork.
- Reads switch lists.
- Coordinates with contractors performing on-site railcar movement.
- Couples and uncouples cars, operates switches, and makes minor repairs to railcars, including replacing heavy couplings or air brake hoses.
- Performs minor maintenance to the locomotive.
- Works cooperatively to comply with facility-wide environmental and quality management systems.
- Receives and transmits information by radio and telephone.
- Maintain awareness of surrounding area and suspicious activity to ensure all rail safety.
- Communicates with management on any problems that occur.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Achieves desired results through effective leadership and appropriate influence while adhering to established policies and procedures.
- Supervises logistics staff.
- Models and reinforces safety as a top priority of the organization.
- Schedules and meets deadlines, adheres to policies and procedures and maintains a good attendance/tardiness record.
- Accurately completes and sets up all shipments on their respective work days.
- Handles all CP and UP issues on their respective work days.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Must be able to operate the locomotives
- Prior rail, transload, or refinery experience a plus.
- MSHA training and experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be a self-starter and work with minimal supervision.
- Good judgment is required.
- Must be adaptable and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have high safety standards for self and others.
- Must be able to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate effectively with others.
- Must be willing to work any assigned shift, overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to read
