Positions runs: August 1 - November 5 , 2024
Part-time: Approximately 10 hours per/week for 14 weeks
Compensation: $3,500 for Fellowship
The Alaska Center Education Fund (AKCEF) is seeking to hire 3-5 young Alaskans ages 18-30 as Youth Civic Engagement Fellows. Fellows provide non-partisan voter education and outreach for the 2024 Election season. Positions open until filled. The Fellows Program starts on August 1 and ends on Nov 5 with possible flexibility. The compensation for this position is $3,500 ($25 per hour).
Position Overview
The Alaska Center Education Fund seeks 3-5 passionate, socially confident, reliable young Alaskans to be advocates and champions for voter empowerment and education as Youth Civic Engagement Fellows. The Youth Civic Engagement (YCE) Fellows will work alongside staff, volunteers, and community partners to conduct non-partisan voter education for the State Primary Election (August), fall local elections (October), and the General Election (November). This temporary contract position will run from August 1 - Nov 5, 2024 and provides excellent career-building opportunities in voter and civic engagement.

Our issue priorities include advancing climate action, protecting salmon habitat, and amplifying Alaskan voices in the public process. We achieve our mission through youth education and leadership development, community organizing, and non-partisan voter engagement. The Fellows Cohort will work together on these deliverables:
- Train voters on how to use Alaska’s ranked-choice voting system.
- Have one on one conversations to provide non-partisan voting information to voters over the phone and at their front doors;
- Phone banking, door canvassing, tabling at events, and other outreach activities weekly.
- Alongside staff and partner organizations, co-host for 4-5 phone banking events to reach voters. Help recruit volunteers for these events.
- Help plan door-knocking events in low-voter turnout neighborhoods in your community.
- Hand out non-partisan voting information at community events;
- Come up with unique ways to reach voters with different abilities and identities.
Other Duties Include:
- Coordinate activities with other community organizational partners
- Enter data into EveryAction/VAN and work with your supervisor to ensure quality and
accuracy
- Exercise diplomacy, as conversations will take place with Alaskans from all walks of life and political dispositions
This is an entry-level position, so no experience is necessary, but a strong candidate could:
Have an interest or/experience with phone banking, working with the public, event planning, and volunteering; have an interest and/or experience working in politics and civic engagement; have excellent interpersonal skills; be independent, accountable, and honest; have experience working with technology and data entry.
