Seeking Teaching Assistants to work in Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st-grade, and 2nd-grade classrooms starting in September. The Teaching Assistant will support the classroom teacher in delivering instruction, supervising students, and maintaining a positive learning environment. The role involves working with students in small groups, supervising lunch and recess, and performing additional duties as required.
Please note that this is not a Department of Education Position. Teaching Assistants are fully funded by The PS 84 PTA.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructional Support:
- Assist in implementing lesson plans by providing instructional support to students in small groups or one-on-one settings.
- Help students understand and complete assignments, reinforcing learning concepts introduced by the teacher.
- Prepare and organize instructional materials and resources.
- Assist with classroom management by maintaining a positive and orderly learning environment.
- Lead morning meetings to foster a positive and engaging start to the day.
- Work with small groups of children for either enrichment or intervention.
Student Supervision:
- Supervise students during lunch and recess, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
- Monitor students' behavior, encouraging positive interactions and addressing any issues promptly.
- Escort students to and from different areas of the school as needed.
Clerical and Organizational Support:
- Take daily attendance and maintain accurate records.
- Prepare and distribute classroom materials, such as worksheets and handouts.
- Organize and maintain classroom supplies and resources.
- Maintain student files and manage paperwork.
- Photocopy assignments and other classroom materials.
- Create and update bulletin boards to reflect current learning themes.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents as needed.
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher to develop and implement strategies to support student learning.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school events.
Behavioral Support:
- Assist in implementing behavior management plans and interventions.
- Provide support to students with behavioral, social, and emotional needs.
- Model and reinforce positive behavior and conflict-resolution skills.
Homework and Assignments:
- Check homework and provide feedback to students.
- Assist students with understanding and completing assignments.
Movement Breaks:
- Lead movement breaks to help students stay engaged and focused throughout the day.
Other Duties:
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or school administration.
- Assist in the preparation and execution of school events and activities.
- Support the overall mission and goals of the school.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree or higher preferred.
- Experience working with children in an educational setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and parents.
- Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move classroom materials and equipment.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to supervise students in various settings, including indoor and outdoor environments.

Pay: Up to $21.00 per hour
