Position: Substation Operations Manager
Position Summary
Responsible for overseeing substation construction projects from inception to completion. Manage a team of professionals and subcontractors, to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. Additional oversight includes pre-construction planning and resource management to deliver a quality product.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for overseeing day-to-day construction operations
- Manages budgets, leading project management efforts, and negotiating contracts
- Takes necessary actions to maintain targets through leading teams and project sites.
- Responsible for monitoring the construction of projects including budgets and schedules, regulatory, environmental, and health and safety requirements
- Plays a lead role in the management of people and processes
- Clear and effective communication and coordination between all stakeholders on the project. Ensuring project teams are communicating effectively including field personnel, subcontractors, project managers, quality and safety professionals.
- Partners with the Project Manager to maintain business plans
- Plans, assigns, monitors, reviews and evaluates the work performed by assigned staff and makes recommendation regarding recruitment, hiring, promotion, reassignment and discipline
- Coordinate punch list work so as not to interfere with usage of the building or project
- Oversee construction milestones and track accuracy of schedule
- Review Closeout Checklists
- Assist compilation of the close out documents as required by contract documents
- Perform related duties as assigned
Requirements:
Job Requirements and Qualifications
- 10-15 years of construction industry experience preferred.
- Substation construction experience required.
- Supervisory experience required.
- Familiar with Microsoft office suite, CAD, PowerBi and other standard industry systems.
- Travel required up to 50% of the time
- List any required education (ex. High School or GED, Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree)
- List any required certifications (ex. Skid Steer cert., CDL, OSHA 510, SHRM, PMP, P.E.)
- Does this position require overtime or weekend work?

Physical Requirements:
- This position will require both office and field visits.
- Office:
o May be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard, and telephone, along with other general office equipment.
o Close vision abilities required due to computer work.
o Light to moderate lifting/carrying of 25 lbs. may be required.
o Reaching overhead or below.
o Work environment may include being able to tolerate moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phones, printers, light traffic)
o Ability to work in a confined area.
o Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.
o Ability to lift and carry heavy materials, tools, and equipment (up to 50 pounds or more).
o Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.
o Endurance to perform physical tasks throughout the workday, including bending, stooping, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
o Agility and flexibility to navigate construction sites and access work areas, including climbing ladders and scaffolding.
o Must be able to position one-self to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, and tunnels.
o Must be able to wear personal protective gear most of the day.
o Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.
o Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
