Outside Sales Representative
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY but must be willing to learn, travel and drive business.
COMPANY OVERVIEW:
For 120 years, GBC has been considered the nation’s largest buyer and wholesaler of fine jewelry surpluses and closeouts with distribution throughout the United States and beyond. At the same time, it maintains a small company atmosphere with a close-knit team of product, sales, and operations professionals experiencing high productivity and a low employee turnover rate.
POSITION SCOPE/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overall responsibility is generating sales. Functions include: making appointments and visiting with existing accounts, presenting merchandise, developing and maintaining customer relations, and establishing new accounts.
GBC’s fine jewelry offerings are ever-changing and its entire format is value oriented, with prices being consistently below market. For this reason, every day brings with it new items, new challenges and new opportunities for customers to take advantage of GBC’s “here today, gone tomorrow” urgency. Jewelry merchandise (rather than samples) is carried to the customers who select what they want and take delivery during the sales call.
Sales throughout the Company are generally executed by independent contractors who are engaged to handle specific geographic territories as Sales Representatives. The available position, however, would be as a salaried employee, based out of our Boston office with geographic responsibilities changing with the Company's needs. They could be anywhere in the continental United States and travel would be extensive, with a routine of 2 weeks (including the weekend) away from this region, and one week back at the Boston office.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A goal oriented, self-motivated individual who can blend drive with attention-to-detail and consistent respect for customers and their needs. These qualifications are essential, as the primary job is absent of daily personal supervisory contact. Drive and determination are required to maximize sales over such an extensive geographic area. Respect for customers is necessary in order to maintain proper relations. Due to the high value of the product being carried, there is also the necessity for honesty, integrity, “street smarts” and an ever-present vigilance with respect to security.
College degree is preferred and a high school education is required.
Experience with fine jewelry merchandise will be helpful but not necessary, but the ability to learn about it will be essential.
Telemarketing experience is helpful. The ability to interact in a positive fashion with different personalities, both in person and over the telephone, is essential.
Ability to carry, maneuver, and protect a fifty pound bag of fine jewelry in and out of stores, vehicles, and aircrafts.
Given the nature of our business, candidates must pass a thorough credit and security background check.
