Position Summary:
The Reporting directly to the Director of Stage Production and Operations, the Production Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing all aspects of production operations, ensuring seamless execution of performances and events while upholding the highest standards of excellence. They will be a crucial on-site liaison for resident companies, union employees, and Granada management.

Directly supervises: Stage Coordinator
Indirectly supervises: Department Heads, Stage Hands
Remote work: This position maybe eligible for hybrid work upon manager approval
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB FUNCTIONS
- Coordinate and manage all aspects of production for performances and events, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Oversee Stage Coordinator to ensure that all technical elements are executed flawlessly to enhance the overall quality of performances.
- Lead and supervise House Crew, including stagehands, technicians, and other crew members.
- Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure optimal performance and productivity.
- Collaborate closely with Director of Stage Production and Operations, artistic directors, performers, and external production teams to ensure alignment of creative vision and technical requirements.
- Foster positive working relationships to facilitate smooth communication and collaboration throughout the production process.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards for theatrical productions. Implement appropriate safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks and create a safe working environment for all staff and performers.
- Coordinate logistics for load-ins, load-outs, rehearsals, and other production activities. Develop comprehensive production schedules and timelines to effectively manage resources and meet production deadlines.
- Work closely with local union representatives to facilitate work calls, ensuring compliance with union agreements and regulations. Coordinate staffing needs and scheduling in accordance with union guidelines.
- Develop and manage production budgets, monitoring expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities whenever possible. Ensure efficient use of resources to maximize the financial sustainability of productions.
- Anticipate and address any technical or logistical challenges that may arise during productions. Implement effective solutions in a timely manner to minimize disruptions and maintain the overall quality of performances.
- Attend required meetings, respond to emails and calls in a timely manner.
PRINCIPAL SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB FUNCTIONS
- Conduct interviews for new employees ensuring that we select the candidate(s) that are the best fit for the position and organizational needs.
- Managing the workflow of direct reports and indirect reports (as needed), creating team schedules and delegating tasks
- Assessing the work performance of direct reports and identifying areas that need improvement
- Ensuring that organizational and department goals, deadlines and performance standards are met
- Training and onboarding new hires to make sure they understand their roles
- Setting goals for direct and indirect reports that are in line with organizational and department goals
- Recommend new employees to the human resources team based on an assessment of their performance
- Reporting performance records and evaluations to HR and senior management
- Ensuring organizational policies and procedures are communicated and upheld
- Other duties as assigned
Decision Authority: Per CBA, determines the number and nature of stage employees that are needed and advises Union Steward of the stage employee requirements for production.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Theater Production, Technical Theater, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
Experience
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in production management, preferably in a performing arts venue or theater setting.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Strong technical knowledge of stage lighting, sound systems, rigging, and other production equipment.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a diverse team of production staff.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with artists, performers, and other stakeholders.
- Proficiency in budget management, scheduling software, and other production management tools.
- Experience using common office software including but not limited to: MS Office, email, GoogleDocs
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed, depending on production schedules.
- Hands on experience with Vector Works preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must be able to work a wide variety of hours related to scheduled events, including evenings and weekends.
- Must be able to rapidly move up and down staircases throughout the duration of a performance or event.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time (4-5 hours minimum) during the duration of a performance or event.
- Must be able to lift program boxes, tables, chairs and such other items as are necessary to accomplish the work expectations outlined above, up to 25lbs.
- Must have a valid California driver’s license.
Work location: On-site with hybrid option after two months of continuous employment upon manager approval per our telecommuting policy.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
