Audit Manager
Position Overview:
A Manager is the liaison between the Shareholder, client, and professional staff. Managers are responsible for directing multiple accounting projects and client engagements simultaneously, and scheduling, staffing, and coordinating engagement workflow. Managers make associations to develop new business for the Firm. In addition, they develop and train staff. Performance is evaluated based on quality and accuracy of work, application of accounting and tax knowledge, supervision of Staff, In-Charge, Senior and Supervisor level personnel, the ability to meet time and budget constraints, as well as client deadlines, and the ability to develop new business for the Firm.
When performed by a fulltime employee, this position is exempt as defined in the Fair Labor Standards Act, and its primary duty includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.
Essential Functions:
- Assumes full responsibility for all phases of an audit, compilation, or review engagement.
- Demonstrates competency in technical skills, work quality, and application of professional and Firm standards.
- Meets time and budget constraints and client deadlines.
- Maintains contact with clients throughout the year; has a thorough knowledge of the client and all facets of the client’s business needs.
- Plans, schedules and staffs’ engagements using Firm policies and procedures.
- Evaluates internal controls and work programs prepared by staff.
- Supervises staff and provides on-the-job training; reviews staff assignments for appropriateness; reviews work papers and reports prepared by staff.
- Mentors, counsels staff, and performs or provides input on staff performance appraisals.
- Anticipates problem areas of engagement and questions that will arise.
- Keeps Shareholder(s) informed of important developments on engagements and analyzes problems and recommends solutions.
- Ensures that financial statements and required communications are prepared in accordance with professional and Firm standards.
- Possesses knowledge of the Firm’s philosophy and its opinions on financial matters working with the respective Shareholder in-charge.
- Maintains knowledge of general economic, political trends or other legislation that could affect the business climate.
- Participates in Firm’s practice development efforts and demonstrates ability and desire to secure new business for the Firm.
Other Functions:
- Develops an understanding of and adheres to Firm policies and procedures including (as appropriate) Firm’s Quality Control document.
- Pursues continuing professional education and upgrading of accounting skills, including attending CPE, reading national, professional, and local business journals and publications, staying familiar with pronouncements from the IRS, Congress, the AICPA, etc. Maintains knowledge of the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct (as appropriate for position).
- Works to develop responsible, trained staff by assisting in recruiting, developing training aids, and acting as an instructor in professional development programs.
- Does research and prepares reports and projects as requested by shareholders.
- Achieves at least minimum annual productivity budget for chargeable hours, chargeable percent, and realization.
- Effectively bills and collects charges from clients for whom the Manager acts as the Bill Manager and/or Primary Partner.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
Required Experience and Skills:
- At least seven (7) years of experience in public accounting demonstrating a progression in complexity, scope and number of engagements managed.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates sound critical thinking, professional judgment, and decision-making skills.
- Conducts themselves with integrity in a responsible, professional manner and appearance.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in use of computers, computer accounting software and audit spreadsheets, word processing software programs.
Required Education: Bachelor’s in accounting or related field
Required Experience: 7 years progressive experience in public accounting
License/Certification: CPA
Working Requirements:
- Frequent same day travel for work at client's offices, meetings and seminars using a personal vehicle.
- Out-of-town travel with overnight stay is possible.
- Overtime is expected throughout the year and heavy overtime is required in April and October.
Safety:
- Minimal hazards.
- General office working conditions.
- May be required to lift files/boxes in the range of 10-20 pounds.

Pay: $97,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
