Role Overview:
The Low Voltage Estimating Manager will lead a small team of estimators while also actively participating in the preparation of estimates and proposals for low voltage projects. This player-coach role requires a blend of leadership, mentoring, and hands-on estimating expertise to ensure accurate and competitive bids. The Estimating Manager will collaborate with various teams to drive successful project outcomes.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management:
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of low voltage estimators, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture where speed and accuracy are the watchwords.
- Training and Development: Provide ongoing process and technical training and professional development opportunities for team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Performance Management: Conduct regular performance reviews, set goals, and provide feedback to team members to ensure continuous improvement.
- Estimating:
- Estimate Preparation: Prepare detailed cost estimates for complex low voltage projects, including data/structured cabling, security systems (video surveillance and access control), and audio/visual installations.
- Bid Management: Develop and manage quotes, bids, and professional proposals, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness.
- Vendor Relations: Solicit and evaluate quotes from distribution partners, vendors, and subcontractors to secure the best value and compliance with project requirements.
- Project Analysis: Conduct site visits and attend pre-bid meetings to gather information and clarify project scope.
- Documentation: Maintain organized records of estimates, proposals, and related correspondence.
Collaboration and Reporting:
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with sales, project managers, engineers, and other departments to ensure alignment on project specifications and requirements. Where specifications and requirements may be missing, participate in authorship of specs and requirements.
- Cost Analysis: Conduct cost analysis and market research to stay updated with industry product and services trends and pricing.
- Reporting: Prepare and present detailed reports on estimated costs, win ratios, project profitability and timelines, and potential risks to senior management.
Compliance:
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all estimates comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
- Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain quality assurance processes for estimating procedures working closely with Quality and Business Services teammates.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in low voltage estimating, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of low voltage systems, including data/structured cabling, security systems, and audio/visual installations.
- Software Proficiency: Proficiency in estimation software (such as D-Tools, Accubid, ConEst, or similar), MS Office Suite, Salesforce CRM, and project management tools.
- Certifications: Relevant industry or product certifications (e.g., BICSI, RCDD) are a big plus

- Competitive salary of $100,000 - $115,000 with OTE commissions.
