FLSA STATUS: Full-time, Monday-Friday 7:00am – 2:00pm
POSITION OVERVIEW: Work in partnership with Nutrition Site Manager to prepare meals for home delivered meals and congregate meal site.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follow directions under supervision of Nutrition Site Manager
- Assist in preparing and serving meals for nutrition programs: Home Delivered Meals (HDM), Congregate Dining Sites.
- Start meal preparation daily, as instructed, including checks required temperatures of food, freezer and refrigerator.
- Work independently and provide support for the Kitchen Manager when they are performing other duties or not available.
- Fill Home Delivered Meal containers and congregate plates with individual portions of food in manner specified by state law.
- Serve meals from cart in dining room, if necessary.
- Responsible for cleaning and maintenance tasks in accordance with posted schedules.
- Loading and unloading dishes, pots, pans and utensils, dishwasher and follows procedures for sanitation of dishes.
- Kitchen area clean up and sanitized.
- Maintains all kitchen production equipment, refrigerators and freezers, food preparation utensils and pots and pans in a clean and sanitary manner.
- Clean walls throughout kitchen and storage areas.
- Occasionally performs custodial duties on floors, including sweeping, washing, mopping and disinfecting if needed before regular maintenance.
- Occasionally empties and disinfects all garbage cans; cleans can holding area. Performs recycling duties.
- Cleans and sanitizers MOW’s mobile containers.
- Assist in receiving food and supplies and storing in correct location; verifies count and quality upon receipt. Notifies Kitchen Manager of any discrepancies.
- Must lift and carry supplies and equipment.
- Follows regulations and procedures required by food service authorities. Observes all health and safety practices.
- Assists and works cooperatively with volunteers and staff.
- Detail oriented, must be able to multi-task well and work independently.
- Creativity, humor and patience are essential.
- Attends department and general staff meetings as required.
- Must maintain all required trainings.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); two years’ commercial food preparation experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Safe food handling certification preferred.
- Negative TB test required.

Physical: Stands at least 6-8 hours per day. Must have excellent hearing, speech and writing capabilities, and the ability to lift up to 55 pounds.
Environmental: Works alone, with and around others. Work environment is moderately noisy. Distractions are regular.
Cognitive: Required to read, write, compile, sort and analyze simple to moderately complex information. Independently assesses workload and prioritizes activities. Very strong organizational and planning skills. Able to communicate and resolve semi-complex problems
independently. Excellent listening skills and ability to perform tasks requiring great attention to detail. Uses judgment and initiative, within defined limits of discretion, in making recommendations and decisions.
Psychological: Strong interpersonal and communications skills to deal with emotional, demanding or difficult people and/or situations. Regular exposure to high-stress situations with demands, deadlines, shifting priorities and multi-tasking. Excellent teamwork and proactive group participation are a necessity.
