Position Description: Food Prep/Dishwasher
Department: Deli-Kitchen
Reports To: Kitchen Manager
Pay Range: $18.50 - $22.00 per hour
General Purpose:
As a Food Prep/Dishwasher at Organic Natural Food Market in Del Mar, your primary role is to ensure that our customers enjoy high-quality food prepared in a clean and hygienic environment, adhering to the store's standards and guidelines. You will also provide support to the Deli Counter staff in delivering exceptional customer service in line with our Customer Service Standards.
Essential Duties:
- Clean, wash, sanitize, and organize kitchen equipment, pots, pans, and utensils systematically.
- Maintain the 3-compartment sink in compliance with Health Department regulations.
- Assist Chefs by following the assigned daily production list during food preparation.
- Periodically check trashcans and recycle bins, emptying and washing them as necessary.
- Transfer dirty hand towels into the laundry basket.
- Sweep and mop the walk-in and Kitchen floor during every shift and follow cleaning checklists.
- Properly store orders and products in their designated locations.
- Practice proper food preparation, including avoiding cross-contamination, correctly cooling hot foods, ensuring proper rotation, and properly covering, labeling, and dating all food items stored in the walk-in.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area in accordance with Health Department regulations, including cleaning the back dock, dish area, and hand sinks.
- Proactively assist customers in accordance with the guidelines outlined in our Customer Service Standards.
Other Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with team members to achieve department and store goals.
- Attend scheduled Department meetings and all store meetings.
- Assist Kitchen supervisors with special assignments.
- Properly use knives and all other equipment.
- Adhere to all Deli Department and store policies as outlined by the Deli Managers, Staff Member Handbook, and Injury and Illness Prevention Plan.
- Maintain a clean and neat appearance in compliance with the Dress Code policy.
Qualifications:
- Ability to understand and follow Department of Health regulations, with a commitment to completing the Food Handler’s Certificate within 10 days of employment.
- Friendly, outgoing personality.
- Willingness to accept direction from various people.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted during any assigned shift.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to climb and balance on a step stool/ladder.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- Ability to sustain repetitive arm and hand motion.
Work Environment:
- Ability to work under various conditions and temperatures, including wet and dry environments, for extended periods.
- Ability to work safely around kitchen machinery and sharp knives.
