This is a non-exempt (hourly) position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicant’s salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job.
The Library Associate works within the branch team to create a welcoming and engaging environment for adults. The Library Associate leads age-appropriate programs for adults including digital literacy classes, technology tutoring, resume workshops, book clubs, and other adult programs. This position represents the library in the community and facilitates outreach to various senior communities and area partners. The Library Associate participates in systemwide teams and works collaboratively with staff in Adult Services. Strong programming and outreach experience is highly desirable. Proven ability to build and maintain library and community partnerships is a plus as well as developing positive and ongoing relationships with library users and community partners. Must be a highly collaborative team player and a strong individual contributor. Supervisory skills are highly desirable as well as the ability to inspire excellence in a diverse staff. Must be able to work with limited supervision and exercise sound independent judgment. This position may be required to serve as a Manager-On-Duty for the library branch.
Cornelius Library is nestled in the center of downtown Cornelius and is committed to providing exemplary service to all customers through technology and computer assistance and research and readers’ advisory from a single service desk. The Library Associate will regularly staff this service desk, serving customers of all ages. The incumbent will perform daily circulation services such as: shelving, book drop retrieval, and holds processing. The Library Associate serves as a regular manager-on-duty. Previous experience with branch operations, opening/closing a facility and cash handling procedures strongly preferred. Rotating schedule will include evenings and weekends. The Library Associate should have strong technology and computer skills.
Position Summary
Perform professional and technical library work in one or more specific library programs such as Adult, Teens, Youth, Reference Services, or Library Systems Administration. The Library Associate delivers a high level of quality library services ensuring the provision of value-added experiences for all customers.
Essential Functions
Prepare program reports
Perform circulation activities
Create and deliver programs to age-appropriate audiences
Provide research assistance to customers
Utilize integrated library systems software
Provide service desk coverage
Train and assist customers on various library policies, procedures, and processes
Maintain library’s collection of materials including repairs, shelving, and marketing
Assist with volunteer management
Promote and markets library’s programs; collaborating with Marketing and Communication to generate flyers and materials pertaining to programs
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum of two years of library, retail, computer, or customer service experience
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience planning and facilitating library programs for adults
Experience providing Access Services within a library
