A Research Technician 2 position is available immediately in the Department of Plant Pathology in the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) at The Ohio State University (OSU). The successful candidate will assist with various research projects broadly focused on Soybean Pathology and Nematology. The ideal candidate should possess the ability to extract, identify, and enumerate microorganisms that parasitize soybeans in the laboratory. They should also be capable of conducting soil and plant sampling in field research plots and maintaining cultures of nematodes, oomycetes, and fungi for use in bioassays. Additionally, they should have the skills to analyze Ohio field soil samples to determine soybean cyst nematode (SCN) populations, Phytophthora pathotypes, and other phytopathogens. Furthermore, the candidate will assist in screening and profiling SCN populations and Phytophthora pathotypes and will be responsible for preparing and maintaining greenhouse, field, and laboratory experiments for data collection.
The position will be located on the Columbus campus. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Horacio Lopez-Nicora, in Plant Pathology. The position also offers opportunities to work collaboratively with other faculty and staff within CFAES. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Qualifications:
Bachler degree, or equivalent experience; 1-2 years of relevant experience desired. Proven experience related to writing scientific reports and/or thesis.
Prior proven experience coordinating and organizing research activities or managing research projects.
