Community Action Programs Inter-City, Inc. (CAPIC) Head Start
A Federally funded program that provides comprehensive pre-school services to
qualified children and their families in Chelsea, Revere, Winthrop
Family Advocate- Bilingual Spanish/English
The ideal candidate will be passionate, enthusiastic and committed to supporting a culturally diverse population of families in becoming ready for kindergarten. The person will have strong communication, organizational and critical thinking skills. The Family Advocate will have a desire to continually learn and be a part of a team that consistently seeks ways to improve services to families.
The Family Advocate provides outreach and support to families to promote school readiness, family literacy, social/emotional well -being and self-sufficiency. S/he assists with program recruitment and enrolls families in to the program. The Family Advocate works with an assigned caseload of families to promote short and long term goal setting, and encourage families to become actively engaged in all aspects of the program. To build relationships with the family, s/he conducts home visits, works collaboratively with teachers including spending time in the classroom, and actively participates in program wide parent activities.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Associates Degree in Human Services, Social Work or related field or; A credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling or a related field within 18 months of hire.
Preferred:
- BA/BS in Human Services or related field
- 2 years of experience working with families with young children
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Bilingual English, and Spanish or Arabic
- Strong computer skills
- Experience working with families in a human service role
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team member
- Professional, positive attitude when performing all duties.
- Ability and experience in working with ethnically, linguistically and/or economically diverse populations.
- Ability to perform calmly and professionally in stressful interpersonal situations.
- Ability to travel to home visits and between program sites.
