Primary Care of Southwest Georgia (PCSG) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with multiple locations that are dedicated to providing high quality care to our patients. Under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager, the pharmacy technician is responsible for helping pharmacists perform daily tasks to serve customers. Technicians have a range of duties including prescription filling and labeling, customer assistance, and coordination with other clinic staff to provide pharmaceutical needs to patients.
II. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Performs duties assigned by a licensed pharmacist. Areas of work are checked routinely for maintenance of quality control. Work is conducted in accordance with generally accepted standards of practice following departmental procedures and policies as outlined in the department operations manual.
· Reads and interprets physicians’ orders received in the pharmacy and transcribes same into the pharmacy computer medication profile. Assesses prescriptions for accuracy and identifies missing information. Work is verified by licensed pharmacist.
· Prepares in accordance with pharmacy law and standards of pharmacy practice outpatient RXs to be dispensed after pharmacist approval. May sometimes assist with delivery of medications to patient.
· Responds to requests of patients and healthcare providers, answering their questions and referring various inquiries to the Pharmacist
· Complies with rules, regulations, and procedures to help maintain a clean and safe pharmacy, such as by sterilizing equipment and surfaces.
· Assists with billing and maintains knowledge of insurance requirements in accordance with pharmacy procedures and 340B program requirements.
· Provides customer service for all patient prescriptions needs including use of POS/cash register functions. Will assist with cash handling and reconciliation processes for pharmacy department.
· Assists with inventory management procedures by checking in orders, putting orders away and filing associated paperwork. Checks and removes outdated meds on a routine basis and processes appropriately to reverse distributor.
· Maintains pharmacy registration with Board of Pharmacy.
· Continues to educate by attending drug in-services and keeping up with policy changes.
III. QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
· High school diploma or GED.
· Registered technician with Georgia Board of Pharmacy.
· 2 years experience preferred
· Knowledge of 340B program added benefit

V. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work may require stooping, bending and stretching for files and supplies. Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, type at 40 wpm, and operate other office equipment such as calculator, copier, and fax. Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for long periods and to work in an environment which can be very stressful. Involves frequent contact and interaction with patients which is constant and may be interruptive at times.
