Summary: Database Analyst, Senior needed at New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, NM
Classification Summary:
Under minimal supervision, evaluates and designs existing or proposed systems to structure and access databases. Analyzes database requirements of the user department, applications programming and operations. Submits recommendations for solutions that require definition of the physical structure and functional capabilities of databases and require data security and data backup/recovery specifications. Proposes detailed specifications and flowcharts and coordinates installation of revised or new systems.
Classification Standard Duties:
Usually works with minimal supervision, conferring with superior on unusual matters. May be assisted by Associate/Intermediate level personnel. Assignments are broad in nature, usually requiring originality and ingenuity. Has appreciable latitude for unrelieved action or decision. Works with IT team to configure hardware or software to perform installations, upgrades, testing, working at optimization of capacity planning, data storage, efficiencies, and database growth. Writes and understands Microsoft SQL. Writes SQL statements, stored procedures and views using industry best practices for security and efficiency. Works on database and code management, review and documentation. Works with application developers to know how applications work and tests results. Creates, develops and manages internal procedures for various job functions within the ERP system. Manages relationship between ERP vendors and carousel. Supports ERP software, database structure and data. Works with implementation team to build, customize and roll new ERP solution to organization and with consultants to design and build database structure specific to carousel's needs.May train Associate or Intermediate level personnel in technical complexities of assigned work.Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for collecting data efficiently and managing systems accurately for outcome reporting and programmatic improvement of the College of Engineering and the College of Agriculture, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences (ACES). The position is vital in the ability to help achieve the goals of the NMSU's Strategic Plan, LEADS 2025. The position will be responsible for the design, creation, and effective management of databases which will manage the data and run operations of the desired data by the requested users, such as the Deans, Associate Deans, and administrative personnel in both Colleges (Engineering and ACES). This position is crucial in assisting the Deans and Associate Deans in providing the most accurate and current data required for reporting to key constituents such as NMSU's administration, the State of New Mexico, the College's Advisory Boards, college faculty and staff, etc. A successful data analyst should have a combination of technical and leadership skills and a strong background in mathematics. This position reports-to Engineering; however, it is partly funded by the College of ACES for duties and responsibilities that are common to both colleges. College of Engineering: 1. Analyze data from such advanced information systems as Gray's data, academic and curricular analytics, Delaware Data System, and ASEE data in the context of Leads 2025 goals. 2. Use visual and statistical software to prepare presentations and reports summarizing the trends for use in decision making. 3. Train department heads, associate/assistant deans, and other staff in the interpretation of data summaries. College of ACES: 1. Develop, extract, analyze data, and create visuals that are easy to interpret for the college of ACES, for example courses cost instruction, student enrollment trends, research expenditures, etc. 2. Designs and maintains the data for the College of ACES utilizing all NMSU reporting systems using statistical software such as Tableau. 3. Interprets and presents data to ACES Dean's Chief of Staff and Leadership team and makes necessary recommendations based on data analytics.
