A small tax/ consulting office in Hudson area that is in growing pains mode and is looking for PT Jack of All Trades. We prepare all types of returns including taxpayers who have not filed taxes in several years as well as business advisory services. We tend to attract people with issues and need help, so cleaning up messes and saving clients from themselves is not uncommon. 10-15 hours (off season)/15+ hours (Feb-May) a week is needed with definite possibility for more in the future and flexible hours are available. We are a scanning office that uses a client portal, Document Management system, E-Signatures and we send out the tax returns as a PDF, not a physical return.

Some of the duties are:
- Helping with train wrecks. Sometimes we need to dig in the piles to find out what the client forgot to mention or has.
- Possibly helping with basic tax returns
- Maintain client contact info
- Basic bookkeeping for 2 estates using excel.
- Help organize the office and provide new ways to make it run better, including updating the procedure manual.
- Posting blogs and newsletters to word press website and social media (undecided if I will outsource this)
- Being nice to the clients but being stern with the owner when he doesn’t follow his own procedures.
- If the owner says he will do something, but you know you can do it better or the owner shouldn’t do it, you need to tell him you will do it and get it done.
- If there is a better way to do things, don’t keep it a secret
Qualifications:
- Strong proficiency w/ Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook
- Don’t be afraid of learning new software we end up adopting
- Knowledge of Drake tax software, Tax Dome and QuickBooks online is very helpful.
- Several years of bookkeeping/accounting/tax experience would be helpful.
- Self-starter, strong work ethic, (take charge and dig in)
- ability to meet deadlines (don’t constantly ask me what needs to be done and finished)
- Attention to detail needed with good communication and organizational skills
- Able to handle a schedule,
- Good sense of humor, especially when cleaning up the client’s mess and/or when the owner is sarcastic or occasionally swears
- Don’t be afraid to tell the owner he is not following procedures
