POSITION SUMMARY: Bauer has a challenging opportunity for a Senior Design Engineer with a primary focus on hydraulic systems. In this role you will provide system level design expertise for Hydraulic Test Equipment for the worldwide Aerospace industry. You will oversee and coordinate the design of hydraulic test stands and related equipment based on a solid understanding of fundamental fluid power theory and the ability to apply knowledge in the design of complex hydraulic circuits. Responsibilities will include sizing and selecting hydraulic components and designing test and control systems. Strong leadership and minimum 5 years of experience with fluid power system design are expected.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include, but not limited to:
- Ensure the overall success of test stand design projects
- Sizing hydraulic tubing/hose
- Design of hydraulic systems, holding fixtures (with active motion), hydraulic manifolds and the integration of mechanical/hydraulic devices and hydraulic controls while working with different fluid mediums
- Extensive experience required in relation to the design of hydraulic circuits, selection of hydraulic components, include valves, pumps, transducers, filters, and fittings, test/evaluation of hydraulic systems, pneumatic high- pressure piping and servo valve applications
- Review test procedures for the components on the equipment capability list, and construct a parameter matrix that will be used to design the hydraulic circuits and determine the instrumentation requirements
- Design the physical layout of equipment in the test system and provide oversight of any tooling/adapters designs that are required to test the components
- Provide direction to design resources to create the manufacturing drawing set, and support fabrication and assembly of equipment
- Perform equipment check-out by verifying proper calibration, operation and function of all test stand systems
- Conduct component data runs and demonstrate capability to the customer at factory acceptance
- Present design package to customers after completing internal review process
- Occasional travel to the customer’s site for design reviews and commissioning of the equipment

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

- Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Knowledge of electrical systems, control systems, and data acquisition systems
- Strong foundation in PC skills; Microsoft Office Suite, spreadsheets, databases, MRP/ERP systems (Visual ERP system knowledge a plus). CAD experience, SolidWorks preferred
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent. BSME preferred.
- 5+ years of new product development and mechanical design experience
- Project Management, planning, budget and cost management experience
- Driving cross-functional teams in project efforts
- Experience in capital equipment engineering required
- Experience designing mechanical systems, hydraulic and pneumatic circuits, and sizing system components
- Knowledge of CE, CSA, ATEX requirements preferred
