Nationally recognized bakery with retail and wholesale operation headquartered on Cape Cod is looking for an experienced Controller to join their team and grow with the business long-term. The Controller will report to the Owner/President and be responsible for accounting, payroll, human resources, and administration. The Controller must be a hands-on professional with the ability to effectively communicate with customers, vendors, and employees, and have the ability to identify and resolve problems in a tactful manner.
Responsibilities include:
- Accounts payable, accounts receivable, sales reports, bank deposits, journal entries, account reconciliations in QuickBooks.
- Set up new GL accounts, items, customers, and vendors in QuickBooks.
- Review retail orders and record payments in QuickBooks.
- Cost products for wholesale accounts.
- Calculate monthly broker commissions and transfer funds.
- Calculate monthly meals tax and file return. Pay and post payments in QuickBooks.
- File and pay PMFL quarterly.
- Calculate bi-weekly payroll; review and approve entries, print and distribute checks.
- Prepare employee new hire packets, set up in payroll, and manage employee files.
- Manage company health insurance and administer employee enrollments.
- Review and manage company insurance coverages.
- Act as one point of contact for company vendors and brokers.
- Oversight of warehouse logistics including order or inventory issues.
- Work with Brokers on any issues with retail orders including exceptions, trucking, rescheduled deliveries.
- Update company website as necessary.
- Liaise with CPA and provides information as needed.
- Produce the annual budget and forecasts; review reports with company owner.
- Recommend benchmarks that will be used to measure company performance.
- Provide financial analysis with emphasis on pricing decisions and contract negotiations.
- Ensure all capital expenditures are accurately budgeted, tracked, approved, and recorded.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
- Hire, train and manage accounting staff.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of practical accounting experience.
- Retail and/or wholesale industry experience a plus.
- Strong proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Excel.
- Exhibits confidence, ambition and self-motivation with the ability to work autonomously and manage priorities.
- Prefers a hands-on role and enjoys wearing multiple hats.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact across all levels of the company and with external clients and vendors.
Full-time in-office position based on Cape Cod, remote work opportunities will be offered in the future. Competitive base salary commensurate with experience and benefits package offered.
