Essential Functions
1. Coordinates scheduling of all surgical procedures in the School of Dentistry’s operating rooms and procedural areas.
2. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely patient access and efficient care delivery in operating and procedure rooms.
3. Serves as primary point of contact for surgery scheduling, triages patient needs, and coordinates physician availability.
4. Schedules preoperative and postoperative patient appointments promptly and collects all necessary documentation.
5. Coordinates pre-procedural medical clearance, tests, and ancillary services, ensuring all recommendations are addressed.
6. Coordinates insurance pre-authorizations to ensure timely financial clearance.
7. Verifies active insurance status and coordinates financial advocacy for patients in need.
8. Manages provider schedules to optimize provider time and operating room efficiency.
9. Ensures necessary resources (equipment, personnel) are appropriately requested for each procedure.
10. Confirms surgery times, resolves scheduling conflicts, and addresses concerns promptly.
11. Provides administrative support as necessary.
12. Organizes and tracks department records.
13. Adheres to regulatory guidelines and hospital policies.
14. Upholds high professional standards and adheres to University of Utah Health PROMISE standards.

Problem Solving
This position provides collaborative coordination and decision making for all activities of a specified program. The program outcome often impacts the University as a whole. Acts as a liaison between internal and external constituencies involved in program activities. Problems arising from these coordination efforts will be addressed by the incumbent who will refer to the manager for issues outside of program policy and procedure guidelines.
