Our growing multi-physician owned ophthalmology practice, focused specifically on retinal care, is looking to add an experienced and well-trained Ophthalmic Scribe to join our team.
The practice provides services at multiple locations throughout beautiful Oregon. Our main location is located in a charming and thriving university town in western Oregon, located one hour from the west coast and one hour from the mountains! Wonderful quality of life!

In our clinic, our scribes are considered our team leaders and are usually the most experienced and knowledgeable. In this position, you will have respect and responsibility!
Duties to include but not limited to:
- Assist physician before, during, and after patient exams with all things related to patient care and charting. This includes monitoring doctor’s schedules, following up on high level patient issues, and making sure the clinic runs smoothly.
- Very strong computer and typing skills.
- Document medical visits, testing and procedures accurately and thoroughly as they are being performed by the physician. This includes translating physician/patient discussions into written progress notes.
- Perform basic patient workups when necessary (including distance and near Visual Acuity, Lensometry, and intraocular Pressure measurements) in a friendly and efficient manner. This is not a large part of the job (<5%), but the skills to do this are required.
- Knowledge of ocular diseases and systemic illnesses affecting the eye, on the level of an experienced ophthalmic technician, is required.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance for all patient information.
- Must possess the ability to maintain a positive working relationship with patients, co-workers, and doctors.
- Travel between locations required: willing to drive occasionally; willing to put in somewhat longer hours on travel days.
Qualifications:
Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or other higher ophthalmic certification; OR Significant recent experience in ophthalmology scribing
- Must have at least some ophthalmic scribing experience, in the presence with other qualifications
- Clinical coding experience required; OCS and/or OCSR certification strongly preferred.
- Prior experience with ophthalmic electronic medical records required
- Broad knowledge of ophthalmology, including General/Comprehensive is a plus
- High School diploma or GED required, college degree strongly preferred
