Purpose of the Position:
The People Operations Partner is a strategic partner to leadership within each of UMA’s departments on issues of team member engagement, team member development, team member relations, and legal and policy adherence. People Operations Partners are expected to establish and maintain open and effective working relationships that facilitate cross-functional collaboration, to understand operational conditions and needs, and to develop and implement effective solutions thereto. People Operations Partners are responsible for managing UMA’s People Operations Coordinators for their respective areas of the business.
UMA is a nonprofit healthcare educational institution with a national presence. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida and founded in 1994, UMA offers content-rich, interactive online programs as well as hands-on training at our Clearwater, Florida campus.

Anticipated starting salary of $110,000; pay rate negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:
Functional
-
Lead assigned People Operations Coordinator, confirming that they are consistently providing high-quality service to team member in an accurate and timely manner.
- Establish key performance indicators for the coordinators and manage development plans.
- Support the performance management process in close partnership with departmental supervisors.

Work with departmental supervisors on editing and administering all corrective action documents.
-
Support and document Performance Improvement Plans.

Liaise with Compliance and departments as it relates to call monitoring violations and corrective action documentation.

Support the annual/bi-annual review process in close partnership with the People & Culture team and departmental supervisors.
-
Develop and deploy training on review process as needed.
- Align annual reviews with known team member opportunities.
-
Promote and assist in execution on team member career progression opportunities (e.g., promotions, lateral moves, special projects, job shadowing), consistent with applicable policies.
-
Support team member development in coordination with team members and their supervisors (e.g., curate personal development plans leveraging Compass or other learning and development resources).

Manage team members’ exit from employment with UMA.

Approve, administer, and document all involuntary separations.
-
Speak to team members who voluntarily resign.
- Review exit report weekly and act on escalated exit responses with outreach to former team member or departmental management, as appropriate.
- Participate in unemployment hearings.
- Investigate, document, and address potential violations of employment policy as described in the Team Member Handbook (e.g., fraternization, favoritism, discrimination, legal/arrest or criminal activity while employed).

Investigate and document potential Title IX violations involving team members, in coordination with the Title IX Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator(s).
- Interpret and communicate data reflected in various sources (e.g., employee relations dashboard, engagement survey results, exit surveys) to identify and analyze team trends and address appropriately with departmental management.

Liaise with AVP, People Operations and Director of Wellness to ensure accountability for department action plans based on the results of engagement surveys (including annual and pulse surveys).

Review engagement survey results with departmental leadership and develop and maintain specific action plans to address areas of opportunity.

Identify opportunities to enhance connections between team members and management throughout the team member life cycle, consistent with UMA’s mission and culture.

Liaise with and support the work of People Operations Coordinators as needed to ensure consistent and effective support of team members in all departments.
- Support the processing and implementation of reasonable accommodations for team members with disabilities.

Support the processing of long-term disability insurance submissions and ensure that decisions are appropriately communicated.

Support communications with team members with denied leaves of absence.

Initiate team member wellness checks as needed.
-
Communicate and work effectively with management and other team members cross-functionally.

Ensure consistent application of UMA’s policies relating to team members in accordance with UMA’s mission and values, all applicable federal and state regulations, and all accrediting agencies standards and requirements.

Compliance

Demonstrate knowledge of, and carefully follow all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting agencies, Florida’s Commission on Independent Education, and internal UMA policies and procedures.
- Effectively communicate compliance requirements to other staff as appropriate and quickly escalate any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.
Work Experience, Skills & Abilities:
Minimum Requirements

Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7-10+ years of experience in Human Resources, preferably as a generalist or HR business partner.

Human Resources certification (SHRM, PHR, or similar)
- Above-average oral and written interpersonal communication skills.
-
Able to professionally communicate in English and otherwise interact professionally with other Human Resources team members and those in other UMA departments.
-
Organizational, follow-up, and time-management skills.
-
Experience with working amidst competing priorities and resolving conflicts between priorities as needed.

Knowledge of and adherence to applicable regulations and other compliance requirements.
-
Effective with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

Able to work and interact professionally in a diverse and inclusive work environment.
Preferred

Bachelor degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

10+ years of experience in Human Resources, preferably as a generalist or HR business partner.

Experience with cross-functional collaboration.
