The HVAC/R Technician is primarily responsible for inspecting, repairing, replacing parts and performing preventative maintenance on a variety of HVAC/R equipment including packaged roof top units (RTUs), Air Handling Units (AHUs) with economizers, make-up air units, fan powered Variable Air Volume Units (VAV) boxes, cooling towers, boilers, chillers, unit heaters, water cooled heat pumps, ground source heat pumps, Indirect Direct Evaporative Cooling (IDEC) units, evaporative condensers, waste oil burners, circulating water pumps, walk-in coolers and freezers, air compressors, exhaust fans, working with PC based work order system, Direct Digital (DDC) controls, Building Automation Systems and associated systems such as Fire Alarm and smoke evacuation systems.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the direct supervision of the HVAC/R Supervisor.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:-
No formal responsibility, but on a limited basis, may supervise special projects or personnel performing complex maintenance. May also assist in the training of newly hired HVAC/R Technicians.
INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:-
Contacts are with supervisors, management, peers, subordinates, elected officials, customers, and/or vendors. Contacts require the ability to exercise a high degree of interpersonal skills to influence persons at all levels. Incumbent is accountable for the results of the contact.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:-
Work is performed indoors and outdoors and requires exposure to dust, fumes and chemical cleaners, severe weather.

Position will be on the HVAC/R On call rotation and available for snow removal.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Spends the majority of the time either upright or walking while on the job.

Lifts, carries, pushes and pulls up to 50 lbs. Uses equipment to move heavier items.

May be required to frequently lift heavy and awkward objects, up to 50 lbs, from ground level to waist level or higher, either on solid ground, or while balancing (Ex. on a ladder).

Frequently climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, reaches and handles while performing duties in cramped and unconventional work areas.

Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication.

Auditory capacity to endure long-term exposure to loud noises.

Constant use of eye, hand and finger coordination while using tools and machinery.

Physical capability to safely operate County vehicles and machinery.

NOTE: Position will have exposure to sometimes hazardous conditions while working on projects at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility (jail), and frequently to opportunities for exposure to blood and air borne pathogens, extreme heat/cold, use of power equipment and machinery, climbing, crawling, stooping, and loud noises. Protective Personal Equipment provided in all situations.
