Job Title: Certified Welder - Hydronic Pipe Systems
Job Summary:
The Certified Welder specializing in Hydronic Pipe Systems is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and installing piping systems for heating and cooling using hydronic methods. The ideal candidate will have experience in welding and working with various types of pipes, including copper, steel, and PEX, and will hold certifications from recognized welding authorities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Welding and Installation:
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and detailed drawings specific to hydronic pipe systems.
- Use various welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, Stick, and brazing to join pipes and components in hydronic systems.
- Cut, thread, and assemble pipes and tubes to specifications using tools such as saws, cutters, and pipe threaders.
2. System Assembly:
- Install hydronic heating and cooling systems, including boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, and radiators.
- Ensure proper alignment and secure fittings, valves, and joints using hand tools and welding equipment.
- Perform pressure tests and inspections to ensure system integrity and functionality.
3. Quality Assurance:
- Inspect welds and pipe joints to ensure they meet standards and specifications.
- Identify and repair defects in welds and pipe assemblies.
- Verify conformance of finished systems to the design specifications and regulatory standards.
4. Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Wear protective gear and ensure that safety procedures are followed at all times.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace to promote safety and prevent accidents.
5. Equipment Maintenance:
- Maintain welding and pipe installation equipment in good condition through regular inspections and preventive maintenance.
- Troubleshoot and repair welding and pipe fitting equipment as necessary.
6. Collaboration and Communication:
- Work collaboratively with other welders, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and project managers to meet project deadlines.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding project status, issues, and improvements.
7. Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including time tracking, materials used, and project completion notes.
- Complete and submit required reports and documentation as needed.
Qualifications:
Education and Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Welding certification from a recognized authority such as the American Welding Society (AWS), Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB), or other equivalent certification.
- Additional certification or training in hydronic heating and cooling systems preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of welding experience, with specific experience in hydronic pipe systems preferred.
- Experience in different welding techniques and positions.
- Familiarity with hydronic heating and cooling systems and their components.
Skills and Competencies:
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
- Strong attention to detail and precision in welding and pipe fitting tasks.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Knowledge of welding safety protocols and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
- Ability to work in various positions and environments, including confined spaces and at heights.
- Good vision and hand-eye coordination.
Working Conditions:
